Hello everybody! I am posting this in the hopes that I can get some advice from this wonderful community!
I was recently accepted into NYU Stern, Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business, Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences for Economics, and Williams College. I am absolutely torn between which to commit to, because all four of these schools have their own merits.
I am majoring in economics or finance-related concentrations for all of these colleges, but I also want to be able to obtain a double major or minor in computer science (I have no solid background in the subject but it has always fascinated me and I am eager to learn).
I also plan to visit Williams and Cornell’s campuses to get a feel for them as I know they are more rural (I have already visited Georgetown and NYU and am familiar with their urban environment).
However, I am posting this because I am wondering about outside opinions on the alumni networks of these schools, their student life, the difficulty of changing majors/schools within the universities, and their placement in prospective job markets out of college, especially on Wall Street.
Thank you all so much for your time!
First of all, well done!!!
Those are all targets for the street. Tell us more about yourself (interests, desire for greek life, rural or urban preference, religious background, ethnicity, what state/intl) and what the costs would be. My answer would be whatever saves you/your folks the most loot because you can go front office/buyside from any school on this list.
Knowing nothing about you and omnibus paribus:
- Stern
- Gtown
- Cornell
Gap
- Williams (only because lack of business school).
If you’re a Catholic kid from a more conservative background probably Gtown. If you want to join a frat and have a “party experience” such as it is Cornell. If you’re just a gunner/international/from Stuy then Stern.
Thank you very much for your kind words! I am a very outgoing person and I like to keep things moving and i want a school that will be unconventional but also intellectually intense. I also appreciate quirky and unique school traditions and flexibility with options since i want to be well prepared for any opportunities that present themselves once I am out of college.
Sounds like you’ll do well anywhere. Real answer is the lowest cost of attendance. You will be incredibly well prepared from any of these schools and they all place well.
Living in NYC is not for everyone. Lot of things about it actually totally suck to be totally honest. On a subway today in early afternoon on the uptown 2 and some bum looked to be drugged/passed out. Scammers/hawkers/hustlers on every corner. Unsavory characters can accost you on your way to class/dinner. Flip side of that is the opportunity is also unimaginable. You could be on a desk/doing IB during your sophomore year at a bulge bracket and have unreal classroom and real-world experiences and come out making street base and likely top bucket bonus.
If you’re all about the $ it’s Stern all day. Don’t care what you’re doing in NYC (media, fashion, finance, tech) you will work like a dog. If you want a “normal college experience” Georgetown is almost as good and places pretty solid. All great options
