I've been accepted to Stern and UVA (under the Echols scholar program, which lets me forego requirements). Which should I pick? I'm probably going to major in economics and/or finance. By UVA, I mean its McIntire School of Commerce.

These two colleges are night and day. Both have terrific undergraduate business programs (McIntire starts in junior year and you have to apply to get in), but outside of this, U Virginia is undoubtedly the stronger college. Having said that, it really depends on what you are looking for in your undergraduate experience. Can you provide a little more insight into your likes/dislikes?

I'm not sure if I want a big city or a more college-town feel. I guess what I'm looking for is a college that will help me get a job after I graduate and somewhere where the atmosphere is nice. I heard Stern has a really competitive atmosphere. I'm really interested in study abroad: I plan on studying both French and Chinese in college. As for activities, I like to dance.

You can do all of those things at both colleges, but I repeat that their environments and the students that they attract are very different. Possibly your comment about a desire for a nice atmosphere would be a factor in U Virginia's favor, but some folks prefer the big city and don't really care about a nice campus and a sense of a community on that campus.

Have you been to either?
