NYU Stern vs. Columbia Econ

I'd pick Columbia, even if it wasn't free. Also Sac just made the point I was about to make.

Guys- I'm not stupid -_-' Of course if I would get into Columbia I would probably choose it over Stern (just for the money factor). But the problem is that Columbia has an INSANELY low Acceptance rate ~10.4%. Now I'm not going to be pretentiously humble and claim that my stats are not adequate for Columbia, but honestly- they are mediocre. However, it is my general feeling that my stats would allow me more easily to get into Stern- which according to most of these posts have about the same rep as Columbia later on anyway. (And Columbia does pay 50% of the tuition for any college cuz my mom works there)

I think you answered your own question. Yes stern is easier to get into than Columbia because of Columbia's insanely low acceptance rate :)

Anyone have the stats on Stern acceptance?

truazn,

For whatever reason, I find it hard to believe that the child of a couple of professor's at Columbia with a 2300+ SAT and great ECs wouldn't get in.

And to everyone suggesting Wharton/Sloan/Haas etc etc, it sounds like the OP would like to stay in NYC...just a hunch.

NYU Stern should be around 30%, 25% at the lowest. NYU's overall acceptance rate is ~35%, and Stern's the hardest division to get into at NYU.

I think it's even lower than that since Tepper at CMU's rate is 20%.

Could be, but Prestige/high rank does NOT equal high selectivity. Look at it, if admission rate determined who was an ivy, Julliard would be an ivy. Harvard is around 9%. Julliard beats at around 7%. But why is Julliard not more prestigious than Harvard?

Um.. for the arts, it is more prestigous than Harvard.

Definitely shoot for Columbia, but I'd consider other schools before NYU Stern..

There is civilization outside of NYC, I promise ;)
