I want to go into iBanking and got accepted to NYU Stern and McDonough School of Business for undergrad business. People say Stern is the clear choice but it seems that Georgetown is sometimes regarded as equal or better than Stern for finance. Which should I take?

Stern for anything in finance esp Ibanking. Gtown is also good and places pretty well at some banks but at Stern you’re in a business school in the middle of the finance capital of the world.

Thanks! But wouldn’t you agree that McDonough is a up and coming feeder school for iBanking? After all it was ranked no.1 by forbes for undergrad finance. It also has an amazing campus! Will Stern still be considered higher tier than McDonough to most iBanks by 2018 when i graduate?

Stern’s been around for a really long time and has a lot alumni. You really can’t go wrong with GTown as long as you do well. You will however limit yourself from any buyside opportunities if you go to GTown. If you really want to go to Georgetown you should go - you’ll definitely have some of the same opportunities. But by pure volume more companies recruit at Stern and the difference is pretty big.

The thing is at Stern kids that want to do Banking start doing internships at M&A advisory boutiques or other boutique banks starting from the sophomore year that its very hard for firms to say no to that kind of experience. Its very easy for Stern students to just reach out to firms that they are interested in and meet with people there. This all depends on whether or not you take advantage of it.

The city has a lot of offer in terms of networking, internships, job opportunities that are hard to find at any other school. That was a little all over the place but let me know if you have any additional questions.

Ok sounds like Stern is the better choice for me career-wise! Thanks!
