NYU Stern vs Indiana Kelley vs U of Mich

Hello, I am a high school senior in LA, CA.

I would like ask your opinion about the three admissions I got so far

NYU Stern BBA Early Decision (can revole ED for financial reasons - funny ED)
Indiana Kelley BBA Priority Decision (its a kind of their own)
U of Mich Ann Arbor LSA - Pre Business Early Action (Ross BBA starts from sophomore)

Tuition (per yr) wise:
NYU Stern almost 70,000 bucks..(no FA aid other than loans)
Indiana 45,000 (11,000/year school scholarship for 4 yrs)
U of Mich 55,000 (No FA. maybe some later)

My parents are a little above middle level income, own house
and small business consulting business.

My parents are saying to go NYU as its location and reputation as
one of top BBA programs, and they are willing to shelve in the whole tuition
without loans.

I was originally interested in NYU as I have wanted to het a IB/finance career
in a big metro, but the tuition is a shocker. NYU cannot offer any FA because
my parents have enough equity to finance my educaton on thier own.

After Indiana's scholarship offering, I have become inclined toward Kelley
as its reputation is not that bad, and a lot cheaper. (my parents would prefer U of Mich)

U of Michigan (my dad went here) is another great option even though
55,000/yr seems a little sttretched for my parents (my thinking) , but my dad wil be delighted.

Should I

a. just stick with NYU and let my parents worry about the bill
b. go for Kelley and save some money for my parents (even though my parents will be against it)
c. go to U of Mich, apply for Ross before sophomore yr (my dad will like it as a)

Thank you for whatever opinion you any share with me.

As far as rankings go, in order, UM, then NYU then IU. But that’s not all you should look at, because they are all fairly close. I can tell you from experience (being from LA) that you will get little to nothing as an OOS at Michigan. If your parents have to pay it all. and UMich is ranked higher and costs less, then that seems like a no-brainer except you aren’t into Ross yet, and it’s getting more competitive. Does $20,000 affect your parents enough for you to study intensely as a freshman to get good enough grades and on campus ECs and internships to wait for Ross? I guarantee you personally will make much more than that difference with a Ross degree. Kelley is ranked just slightly lower, but is a great school. They offered my son a lot of money but after visiting the campus and classes, he was much more impressed with Ross. I bet you could talk Kelley into more money given your other awesome acceptances. Have you visited all three? Highly recommended. That could make or break your decision.

I don’t think with any of the three you can go wrong, frankly, with Michigan being the wild card as you still need to gain Ross admission. Let us know what you decide.

I’d say NYU>UM>Indiana … I don’t think that risking getting into Ross is worth it, but all I really know is Pre-Med… Ultimately, it’s something you and your parents should decide… not strangers on the internet.

For IB, Stern, Ross, and Kelley (if you can get in to their IB Workshop) are all targets, but you haven’t gotten in to Ross yet (and I believe only around 1/3 of UMich applicants do; but just getting accepted in to UMich EA as OOS is pretty impressive as they have deferred a ton of high-stats impressive OOS kids this year) while you also haven’t gotten in to IU’s IB Workshop.

So Stern is the safest but most expensive option.
The key advantage of UMich is that if you change your mind about your major and pursue, say engineering or something else, UMich has many more highly-ranked departments than NYU (though Stern=Ross and NYU CS is through Courant, which is respected; maybe as much as UMich CS).
Kelley is the riskiest but cheapest option.

BTW, Ross also has pre-admit. I would take that over Stern if you have it (but you don’t know if you have that yet and won’t know before you have to reply to Stern ED, right?)

Another aspect to consider is that if you ultimately decide against IB, then a big part of the justification to pay extra for Stern goes away, as Ross, Stern, and Kelley all can get you to many (of the same) places.
In that case, the cheapest option (Kelley) would be the safest option because you would have for sure saved $35K a year = $140K and likely have gotten as far as you could have by going to Stern.

This decision may come down to how much confidence you have in your own abilities. Though, ultimately, your own abilities will likely dictate everything anyway.
So taking the sure savings and attending Kelley may actually be the smart choice (plus, you could then wait to see if you got Ross pre-admit; and UMich has the best overall university reputation, so going to UMich even without the Ross pre-admit may make sense).

BTW, at Kelley, the IB Workshop is the most direct way in to IB, but there are other ways as well.

If you don’t get a per-admit to Ross, I’d be careful about UM. It is very competitive to get into Ross once you are at the school.

Like the above posters have stated, NYU stern is your safest bet as if you go to U Michigan, there is no guarantee of your acceptance to Ross, which would mean disaster for an IB career (ross is a target but U Mich recruiting is far worse). However, NYU Stern is extremely competitive and cutthroat as almost everyone there wants investment banking or consulting. Internships and job offerings will be more competitive. Kelley’s investment banking workshop should be at least a semi target, but a top student at NYU Stern or U Mich. Ross> top student at Kelley

For any aspect of finance(IB, ER, Trading, Buy Side Research / Asset Management) go to Stern. Stern gets a lot of specialized/ unique recruiters and opportunities that you won’t find at UMich and Kelley.

For management / consulting you’ll probably have more opportunities from Michigan.
