I am a Pennsylvania resident. So Temple was supposed to be cheap but they decided to be bougie and only give me 15,000 (including work-study/no loans) and expect me to take another 13,000/a year in loans to finance the rest. Not to mention their business school is significantly more expensive than the rest of their colleges so I had to switch to the Liberal Arts school so the overall cost would be lower.
Much to my surprise 3 days ago I got into NYU STERN. How did that happen y’all? Not only that but turns out NYU is less bougie than Temple. Because they gave me 50,000 a year plus work study. That’s pretty much full tuition. I’ve talked to my sister and we’ve discussed I could live off campus with a friend of hers to cut down on cost. Or I could live in one of NYU’s (significantly) cheaper dorms (around 8000 a year). Add all that up and I would be expected to pay around 10,000 a year. I’m expecting to get some outside scholarships too, as well as work during the summer, apply for scholarships during the 2018-2019 school year, beg my parents for 1000/yearly.
I like the overall atmosphere of both schools although I appreciate Temple’s higher black population because I’m black. Other than that the schools are pretty much equal in my eyes. No, I don’t mind the lack of community at NYU because I’m a go-getter and I’ve wanted to live in NYC pretty much for my entire life :). With so many opportunities and people, I think I’ll be okay. No, Temple’s location does not bother me I’m not soft.
I’ve talked to both schools and they did not grant my attempts at appealing.
So yeah give me some advice. Ultimately it’s my decision but could use some different perspectives
