NYU Stern's Calculus Requirement

Hi All,

I'm interested in transferring to NYU Stern as a junior. I will have all the requirements except for the course in Calculus, because I have already transferred my BC Calculus credit and begun taking more advanced level math courses.

I am wondering therefore what I should do. They offer a section to explain why you weren't able to take certain courses, and so should I do that or include intro Calculus in my next semester courses (although I feel strange having done through LinAlg, DiffEq, and then going back to Calc I), or maybe something will work out with transferring the higher level math courses? Or maybe it doesn't really matter. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

I would ask them to be safe, but I’m sure they will take those higher level courses. Calc 1 is just the minimum level math needed for that requirement.

He’s not primarily concerned about the higher-level math classes; he’s concerned about the lower-level prerequisites. My understanding has always been that as long as the school you apply to transfer to accepts the same AP credits (in this case Calculus BC, or I and II) as the school you’re in, you don’t have to bother retaking the courses. Though I don’t know for sure. It’s kind of a lame issue for some people since some schools don’t allow you to take (or “retake”) courses that were covered by AP credit.
