Our daughter is a freshman at NYU and we live 1500 miles away from NYC.

She has been starting to look at places to store her items for the summer. She has heard negative things about the service where NYU students can store boxes over the summer through a private company which advertises heavily on NYU's campus.

Any ideas on what to do? We're especially looking for answers from families/students who have been in the same situation we are now in.

Manhattan mini storage is a company where you can rent storage lockers. Not that cheap, but probably a good option. College Boxes isn't that bad, though - the only bad things I've heard is that sometimes they don't stick to the delivery times, but isn't that the way with all delivery services?

I fogot on which board, but I saw College Boxes had misplaced someone's stuff and the insurance wasn't really helping that well for what was lost. I'd use a local company in the vicinity of the school, not a third party vendor. Good Luck.

there are myriad companies that offer these services. google some of them. I have never lived in the dorms so I can't offer any advice based on personal experience. if you haven't already, contact student services and see what they recommend.
