Search the NYU forum for "study abroad". You'll find a lot of information.

i did
and i was wondering

well i looked at their study abroad
and exchange student programs, and the japanese 1 i looked at in nagoya costs like under 10,000 a year for school and room, and prolly around 12-13000 for everything including food

ummm
does nyu add to the cost with their tuition.
I dont think they would because its an exchange program, rather than a study abroad program.

One of my friends went to Australia. It's totally possible, and often cheaper.

kevin, through nyu?

yeah
my dad was sayin that the price was on top of tuition, but im like "no, it cant be cause it's an exchange program. so NYU teachers arent even teaching me at all."

No, it's not on top of tuition if you're doing a student exchange (and not the NYU study abroad programs in Paris, London, etc). However, you may or may not be able to transfer the credits back to NYU. Depends on what classes you take, so make sure to talk to your advisor about it.
