Hi, does anyone have any info on the NYU pre-college program? I'm interested in taking a journalism class called Women and the Media, and it is a college level class. The class meets twice a week and runs for three hours. Have anyone ever done this program? I'm skeptical because it is a college level class, so I'm worried that it won't be totally enjoyable and I won't be able to keep up with the work. Can anyone help?? Thanks!

bumpp…i’d like to know this too

I did it last year as a sophomore! I didnt feel out of place because it was a college class though. I didnt have a professor I had a TA and even though I went for free (I took one class called Modern America) NYU didnt cover books and stuff but luckily the TA mostly had online readings and paper packets. We did have like a midterm and a final (if you count 3 pgs and 5 pgs a college level midterm and final respectively). Overall I really liked the material of the class and it taught me a lot (even though I was one of the youngest I was one of the most outspoken), and I feel the best paper I ever wrote was from this class. I ended up getting an A- (3.7) so I would do it again.

Also, NYU arranges events and such for the precollege participants to explore NYC for free (I didnt participate however), and you dont have to if you dont want to.

how hard was it to get financial aid??

heyyy wahkimoocow! Financial aid wasnt hard however, I just sent in my parent’s tax forms and filled out a few papers then they sent my my financial aid statement

@sandra_ny2011-- thankss! I will not be able to submit my app until like April 6-7 :/…is that a bit late?
Also i see you applied to both LEAD and NYU, if you get accepted into LEAD will you just turn one down…or simply somehow attend both? (I am having an issue with other programs i applied to…their schedules conflict :/)

@wahkimoocow- I did NYU Precollege Last summer, so I don’t remember the deadline, but I don’t know how that would play out in admissions to the program if you turn it in a bit late, but LEAD is my top choice for this summer :)

is anyone eligible for financial aid or is there some kind of restriction because i really want to go but im not sure i will be able to pay $4000 for it

well its probably just based on how much your parents make…thats why they ask for the tax returns.
if you make above $200,000 dont expect to get financial aid,
but $60,000 and under–you’re probably guaranteed some aid.

sandra_ny2011-- oh okay i hope i dont regret applying to so many things :p

Doea anyone have any info on this program? How does it fare against other summer programs? What summer theater programs do you recommend…details? Looking for some intense scene study, maybe voice.
