I think many of of the accepted students do indeed get invited to these events. But it is a huge university and they may not be able to accommodate ALL accepted students on those days (remember the number accepted far exceeds the number that enrolls) and so they may send the invites to the candidates they most hope to attract. Most whom I know who have been accepted in the past, have also gotten this invitation. However, the school states that it is possible to be accepted AFTER invitations have gone out and when the official acceptances come around April 1 as they are still finalizing decisions.

do all colleges do this? everyone emails you, inviting you to an accepted students day? or is this just NYU Tisch?

No, not all colleges do this. And by the way, this is not just Tisch but ALL of NYU. Some schools send out their admissions decisions. Then, in April, they do have events for accepted students that any accepted student may attend. NYU’s accepted student events are by invitation and the invitation is extended before the admissions decisions are sent out.

My D got the email too! So excited! Someone who got the email called admissions to confirm if it meant they are accepted and they told him yes.

I have one student who applied to Tisch this year (for acting) and she just got it too. Yes, it definitely means you are accepted.

My S received an E-Mail stating the same letter mentioned. We are hopeful that this is the
acceptance and he gets into the ETW (Experimental Theatre Wing) program

soozievt
when you say jus tgot it do you mean today, not yesterday?

when you say just go the e-mail do you mean today, not yesterday?

My S got the E-Mail yesterday

mamastan…I am not entirely sure. My student lives out of the country but is in the USA this weekend. I contacted her mom yesterday (out of the country) to alert her to check email as the Tisch notices went out yesterday based on what everyone has been reporting. Last night, her mom did not know but wasn’t with her daughter and didn’t have access to her D’s email. So, I don’t know when the student actually checked her email. The mom wrote me this morning that her D got the email (last night, the mom knew nothing of it but I can’t tell when the D actually received it). Sorry, that’s all I know.

soozievt, ive been stalking you for about a year now, and everything you say seems to come true, but i really really would like to know: out of a hundred percent chance, how concrete do you think this email is?

because i got one at 1 in the morning today, had a heart attack, told my mother, she had a heart attack, then i convinced my mother that they probably sent this to all the applicants. I don’t want to get her hopes up (mine are already sky high) but i want to print out this thread and show it to her.

do you honestly beleive that everyone who got this email has been accepted? because i am truly about to puke right now. im that nervous.

anyways, any help you could give me (on a scale of one to ten what you think this email means) would be completely incredible. thanks. :)

ps. by stalking, i mean that every time i see you’ve commented on a board, i look at it and take notes. nothing creepy. :)at least, not TOO creepy.

-stripedpolkadots

Thanks for clarifying the “stalking” comment, ha ha.

I am 100% positvely sure that this email that came in the past 24 hours equates to an ACCEPTANCE to Tisch. In fact, not only did I already know that to be true, but many who received this email in the past day, called Tisch directly to ask and ALL were told that this email is a notice that you WILL be accepted. This email went to select ACCEPTED students to tell them to make plans to come to the accepted student events and that more notice will be sent as to how to RSVP. Your official acceptance package will come around April 1.

My own daughter got this invitation five years ago. Until this year, that was sent in snail mail and looked like an invitation. Apparently the email that went out yesterday was their new way of notifying accepted students who they are inviting to come to the accepted student events. They would not be sending such a notice to someone who will be rejected. Even the wording implies that. But I am not simply making an inference. I am telling you a FACT. It has been confirmed by numerous people who called Tisch. As well, I’ve been on this forum for almost 8 years, and have seen this unfold every year, as well as it happened personally to my own child.

I understand this is a public forum and you don’t have to believe me. But I am positive about what I am telling you. If you wish, go visit the NYU message board on College Confidential where many got this email and are reporting that NYU confirmed that this equates notification that you are an accepted student.

Congrats!

On a scale of one to ten…this email is a ten…you ARE accepted to Tisch.

Please do not have a heart attack though…I understand…my own kid screamed with delight…from her hospital bed…when she learned of it…and nurses rushed in to ask what was wrong. :D

Enjoy the moment. I can relate.

Hey, if you got an email inviting you to the Saturday in the Square event, it means YOU ARE ACCEPTED! It doesn’t mean that you got assigned to the studio that you indicated you wanted to be in, but it does mean you are in at NYU Tisch Drama, if that is the program you auditioned for/applied to.

However, if you did not get this email, it doesn’t mean you are not in. NYU Tisch only sends that Saturday in the Square invite to certain accepted kids. Not sure why and how they choose, but I do know my D was over the moon when she got hers. She was on pins and needles for a week or more after that, however, hoping she got into CAP21, which (thank goodness!) she did. She is finishing up her sophomore year there now and loving (almost) every minute of it. ;)

What exactly is the “Saturday in the Square event”? The e-mail didn’t mention any specific event titles… Is that a special one for accepted Tisch students?

To clear that up…

For many years, the accepted student event for Tishies was called Saturday in the Square. That was the case when my D got accepted in 2005, and also when NotMamaRose’s D got accepted in 2008. However, starting last year, they changed the name of the event. I forget the new name…it may be something like Accepted Student Event or some such. So, no, your invitations and correspondence from NYU will no longer mention “Saturday in the Square”. But there is an event just for Tisch accepted students and separate accepted events for students to the other NYU schools. The details will be forthcoming from NYU and will explain all and how to RSVP. All the events are on the same weekend but not the same day and time. It is separate by school. If you applied to Tisch, and got the email on Friday, then you are accepted to Tisch and to the Tisch accepted student event.

PS…I went to look up the new name of the event (they changed the name last year) and looked up an old thread on the Tisch MT forum and it was “Accepted Students Day” (original, huh?). It so happens that the thread spanned several years and I came across my post five years ago when my D received the invitation (a day I won’t forget). I mentioned to my D yesterday (she is a recent Tisch grad) that the invitations went out this year yesterday and it brings back memories and she responded, “Yes hard to believe it’s been 5 years since the Saturday in the Square invite. Life would sure be different if I hadn’t gotten into NYU!” (she loved NYU/Tisch and everything she is doing today is due to having gone to NYU)

Sorry for the misunderstanding! The Saturday in the Square event was basically an accepted students’ event that was thus named because of Washington Square park, which is near some of the university’s buildings. It consisted of Tisch students coming to the Tisch Building at 721 Broadway and watching a film made by some film majors and hearing short speeches by various people, from the dean to the financial aid folks There were also sessions for the drama, film and other kids.

Soozievt/NotMamaRose
Do you have any idea what percentage of accepted Tisch students do/don’t get invited? Those who have not received this e-mail are trying to be realistic about the likelihood of acceptance into the drama program at this point.
