NYU Tisch Acting vs SUNY Binghamton Theater

For a student who wants to be an actor, but get some liberal arts studies. Comments?

My S applied to Binghamton primarily because my H & I are alums and we knew it to be a good education as well as a financial safety option for us.

Bing is a non audition BA program. NYU is a competitive audition BFA program. Bing is upstate. NYU is in the theatre capital of the world. Bing is very affordable IS at $17k and not too much more OOS. NYU is outrageously priced.

If money is no object, I don’t think you’d find anyone choosing Binghamton’s Theatre program over NYU. And you can find many prior posts on the merits of NYU’s program. But for many, money does count. And so here is what we liked best about Bing. Easier to double major in the BA program. Anderson Center facilities. Recent alumni that are working include the Progressive insurance girl who also does comedy in LA and the guy playing Chase Moran on Army Wives. My H also had a baseball team connection with Broadway composer/lyricist/producer Neil Berg, who recently went back up to Bing to work with current students. Another plus for Bing although it was in terms of housing, was that the room and board fee included weekly bathroom cleaning in the suites. I still don’t get how a state school could include something like that when the expensive private schools didn’t!
