NYU Tisch BFA

Can a recent dancer admitted to Tisch speak to the notification process with respect to timing, whether it was by email or letter, etc.? I thought the process was changed that it is one acceptance, i.e. if you are accepted to Tisch then you are admitted to NYU even if you only hear from Tisch regarding your audition.

Hope this makes sense! I appreciate any input.

My student received her acceptance to Tisch dance and NYU simultaneously, on the general notification date, toward the end of March. Notification was an email that the admission decision was available on Albert. This was 2 years ago. We know of students admitted in prior years who received a Tisch dance acceptance a couple of weeks earlier, by mail, than the formal notification by NYU.

Thank you, Quilll. It’s obviously difficult waiting for decisions but is very helpful to have a general time frame to look for.

I hope your daughter is enjoying NYU - if that’s where she ended up!

Thanks, crazym, she is at NYU and enjoying it. Good luck to your dancer, and try to enjoy the process, stressful as it is.

Quilll - I’m hoping you continue to follow the thread…my daughter was accepted to NYU! She is very excited. Her dance teacher has raised the concern, however, if the program is oriented too much for a career in academics or running a company - not so much on performance. My daughter definitely wants to try to have a performance career in a contemporary company (Hubbard-like). Do you possibly have any thoughts or insight from your or your daughter’s experiences? Thank you!

I have not received any emails or notifications regarding my current admissions status. Has anyone else who is on the waitlist for BFA ACTING at Tisch received anything? Does anyone know when they will be notifying people? This is the most nerve wracking experience of my life!!! Anyone else agree??!

My DD graduated from Tisch with a BFA in dance in 2012. She is currently dancing with a contemporary company as are many of her Tisch Dance '12 friends. It is definitely a performance oriented program. Feel free to PM me if you want more details.

Just beginning our college research, I’ve noticed that Tisch’s dance program finishes in 3 years compared to 4 at most university’s. Does this mean that the cost of going, i hear about 60,000/yr. Does it mean we only have to pay for the 3 years. Because it woyuld make it comparable to other colleges where we would be paying less but for 4 years.

Thank in advance

Frankly, no. It would still likely be your most expensive option. Don’t forget that in addition to the regular year, your dancer is required to spend 2 summers at Tisch, with the associated tuition and housing costs.

Has your daughter stayed in the dorms or has she moved off campus

She applied for and was offered a position as a resident adviser. This comes with a room and a meal plan.
