Hi,

I just got accepted into the Tisch Drama program a few days ago. Unfortunately, USC has accepted me a while back into their BA Theatre program and I never thought I would get into Tisch in the first place so I had my plans set on USC. Plus USC is giving me 50 percent tuition. Theatre is my passion and love, but I also want to see where TV takes me. In a sense, I have to choose between a full ticket price to NYU Tisch (I rate this opportunity ridiculously high) vs. a half off price to USC(a great school for a balanced theatre program vs. social college life)

Please help. Would love inputs.

Thanks!

My kid goes to NYU Tisch and loves it and is getting wonderful training there (and having a social life, too), but USC is also a fabulous school with a fabulous program and if you got a 50% off deal with scholarships and such and Tisch would be “pay the sticker price to play,” I would advise you to seriously consider going to USC and not looking back. I would say this especially if going to Tisch means graduating with debt.

flip of a coin.

The TV connections at USC will be considerably higher. remember many actors get future opportunities from people they went to school with who later become producers or who are the son or daughter of a producer:)

On the other hand NYU and NYC is a great place for an actor.

you’ll need a car at USC to access pro opportunities your 3rd and 4th year. Or sooner:) you can’t walk or subway to auditions in LA.

Go to USC. You’ll regret spending that much money on NYU, plus USC is just such a nicer environment to go to school.

Congratulations greengecko93! Two wonderful options and a fabulous scholarship!

Both my kids are at USC in theatre. Feel free to pm me any questions.

I usually advise the students I coach to try to train/study in the area of the country they would like to live and work in 4 years time. If you are hoping to work in the television and film business, USC does have good connections and is in the heart of the biz.

Good luck!
