As the parents of a student applying to NYU Tisch ED we are wondering what “the people in the know” are saying about The New Studio on Broadway? How do the present students at CAP 21 feel about this and would they recommend an incoming applicant to apply to Tisch? The New Studio does not have their faculty chosen nor do they have their curriculum. Is this all too rushed?

My D is a current sophomore at NYU/Tisch in CAP21 and loves the school and, of course, her studio. I have to admit I don’t know the details about the New Studio (my D and her class – Class of 2012 – will be permitted to finish their years IN CAP21) other than that it sure sounds like they have some very “big” and influential performing arts people/agents/performers involved. Has your student been in touch with Drama Department Chair Elizabeth Bradley to ask questions and get details on the curriculum, etc? If not, I would urge him or her to do that. I have no doubt at all that the program will be absolutely top notch (that’s the way NYU does things, imo) but in your shoes, I would certainly want details, especially if my kid were applying ED. (In fact, I have to ask why your child would apply to a program early decision if that child has questions or concerns about the program. Early decision should be for students who are absolutely, positively, 100% sure that that program is for them.)

I have every confidence in Liz Bradley, NYU Tisch Drama and what these consummate professionals will bring to the table in the creative venture of forging this new studio.

Simply do your homework and speak to the department heads. They are very happy to let you know the plans; and what you will learn will boost your student’s drive to become a part of all that is new and exciting in the drama training at NYU.

NYU Tisch drama has seen affiliations with outside acting studios come and go over the years. Some have been absorbed into new in-house studios, while other new relationships have been forged with outside training program. This is a constant at Tisch.

Ask actors like Raul Esparza, his primary studio while at NYU was discontinued after he graduated, no longer exits at Tisch and he thrives on the broadway stage.

My d, a freshman in Strasberg couldn’t be happier with her training and faculty, from acting to singing to ballet and more. The support and nuturance she receives at Tisch and at Strasberg were everything she was looking for in a program.

Not to worry here as the resources in NYC are extraordinary. Sutton Foster has agreed to be part of this new illustrious faculty, and will be teaching an MT course next semester.

Do go ask questions and learn. Both you and your child need to feel comfortable. Good luck!

With the E.D. decisions starting to be received now, I just wanted to wish all who applied this year, the very best of luck. It was seven years ago that my D received her decision, this week, and I can’t believe that all that time has passed! :)

Just wanted to share with everyone. My son received his NYU Tisch acceptance in the mail Monday, December 14th. We are thrilled! Fingers crossed for all those awaiting their responses. Best Wishes!

BvilleLady,

CONGRATULATIONS TO YOUR SON!!! What a Happy Holiday Season you will have, not to mention the happy senior year he will have. Yeah for him.
