NYU Tisch for Dance

Hi! I am currently applying ED II to NYU Tisch for Dance. My stats are below average with a 1220 SAT and a 3.5 weighted GPA. I danced 20 + hours every week of highschool and it is listed in my activities, and also took mainly honors and AP classes. I am aware that for the dance program it says that it is 50% academic based and 50% talent based. Is this really true? Help! What are my chances?

Hi @iz2000 my kid isn’t i dancing however I believe that tisch school or any of those art schools are test optional. your grades seem to be fine to me. I believe that although it’s 50/50 most of it really depends on your audition. My sons gf just danced today in Chicago and she passed the Cuts and stayed to do her solo. She just finished at 3pm and she started at 9am. I hope that you get in especially if it’s your dream school.

Good luck! Have you had your dance audition yet? That should give you some indication, as they do cuts in the auditions (not everyone gets to do a solo). It’s one of the most competitive dance programs around, so it’s hard to guess your chances from test scores. Best wishes!

My son auditioned in LA and was told if a dancerwas accepted by Tisch then admissions will decide if he/she met academic criteria. There were dancers who were denied acceptance because of academics, but I don’t think there are a lot. Did you audition and have you heard from them?

Did anyone else on this thread get an email from NYU admissions a few days ago stating they were in final review of applications and they wanted to be sure you had not yeet committed to another institution?

hi @grit2018 yes it seems like the majority received it

Was this for dance?

@Chickies11 all incoming students for NYU

thank you! my daughter did receive it but it was in her junk folder!

My daughter received it, too, but it was also in her junk folder. So glad I read it here and could remind her to check that folder. I wonder if they send this email every year? I don’t remember reading about it. Off to check;)

If you made the final cut at the audition and performed a solo does that mean you passed the “artistic” cut and just need to get through “academically”??? And also do they judge academics just as hard for dance as they do other majors?? And lastly does anyone know how acceptances are sent out? Email or snail mail?

Unfortunately, no. Still need to receive the official acceptance from both Tisch and NYU. D’s friend auditioned a couple of month’s ago and received the Tisch acceptance in the mail about 5 weeks after. She is waiting for the one from NYU.

Was that for dance @spicynoodles?? They told us we would only receive one acceptance from NYU & Tisch together and of all the people we know that auditioned no one seemed to get this letter? Was it a NY audition?

@amom2girls We received the same email last year a couple of weeks before the decisions came out. Good luck!

It was told to us at the audition that there would be one acceptance.your posts above are discouraging as we have not heard anything from Tisch since the audition.

@misty14269 you are correct! There is only one person that said that and I don’t believe it is true. There is only one acceptance notice! The other e-mail people are speaking of is just a standard email that was sent to everyone who applied. Many ended up in junk folders. It was regarding if you already accepted at another school and wanted to withdraw your application. I think it was sent March 1st

Decisions are on the portal!!

My son is accepted but we have to see the financials…
