NYU Tisch or USC for screenwriting?

What would you pick if given a choice of those two?

That's a really hard one, but I think just the fact that you've got Hollywood nearby might make USC better. But I know both schools are the best in the nation.

My son was accepted to Tisch for screenwriting and he was very impressed with the program when he went to the acceptance reception. You cannot go wrong either school - it was a hard decision - especially since NYU offered him merit money and USC did not! However he choose USC critical studies (he was turned down from USC's screenwriting program) because he wanted to stay in LA after graduation - however, there is lots of work in NY too. Since both programs are very competitive, it is best to have a back up if you are dedicated to screenwriting. Believe it or not, SUNY purchase copied NYU's program and is the only other college besides NYU and USC to have a specialized screenwriting program. They only accept 25 students, but since they are less well known, it is less competitive.

It has been said that if you are not in LA you are not in the business.

My son was accepted at Tisch dramatic writing dept. We live here in L.A and have industry connections already. So really where he lives will not be an issue. In fact, funny enough, the people here in L.A seem to be more impressed with Tisch for screenwriting. But that said he is a little on the bubble and would like to see a positive reply from USC. The wait is so freaking hard on him and is rubbing off on me. But I'm preaching to the choir here, no?
