Ok, first let me say that I have already been accepted to SUNY Purchase for the Playwriting and Screenwriting program. That gives me one option. I am considering applying to NYU Tisch for UG Drama this year, as a non-traditional transfer, and know I can give a strong audition(even have some brilliant, lesser known plays picked out for my monologues), but my GPA is hovering around 2.0, largely due to one semester at my last college where I had a computer fail and the manufacturer took four months to get it back to me(FedEx broke the screen in transit so I had to send it back again). Otherwise I would be at a 3.5 or 3.6. Since the Drama program only requires 3 years of Acting training, I have the option to wait a year and transfer then audition next year. Based on all of this information, what would you say my chances of getting accepted this year are?

Brad,

For incoming freshmen, NYU Tisch will consider your application based on 50% audition and 50% grades/ test scores, etc. I believe transferring would be similar.

The 2.0 will be a problem. What was your high school record like and test scores? The computer fail is not an excuse you can use for poor grades and I would strongly suggest you don’t try. Schools have libraries filled with computers for students to access. That excuse holds no justification for poor grades or unmet deadlines.

Good luck.

uskoolfish, there were further circumstances surrounding that, so don’t appreciate the scolding since I am a little bit older. My school was two hours away and I don’t drive(I live in a small area without much public transportation at all), and all classes were online. I had honestly tried to work out the situation, but as time drug on I was forced further and further behind. I do believe I will be able to get my GPA back up with a couple of semesters. In any case, I know NYU would not care about that, but I have heard sometimes NYU can be a bit more lenient for Tisch students. I do thank you for your input on the information I sought, behind my question. It seems my best course of action is to get my gen eds out of the way and then transfer. It will also give me another source of income, since as an adult student I cannot rely as readily on family as younger students can.

Brad,
Didn’t mean to scold, but I do believe that you would have a problem with your current GPA and the reason associated with it when you apply to NYU.

So, yes, it would be a good idea to take more classes before you transfer to prove that that semester wasn’t reflective of your capability.

Good luck!
