NYU Tisch & Steinhardt.....numbers

@missyuri, Thank you so much for letting us know! I wondered about it all day but was away from my computer! So happy for you! Best of luck in your decision making!

There was some speculation on this thread earlier that less people are applying to NYU now due to how expensive it is. I, as well as others, maintained that NYU was always an expensive school relative to many other colleges and that is not new, and NYU hasn’t seen a drop in applications.

I happen to just see this article now that backs that point up. NYU (overall, not just Tisch) saw a 15% increase in applications this year over last year’s freshmen application numbers:

http://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2015/01/13/record-breaking-60000-students-apply-to-nyu-largest-increase-in-15-years.html

The past 8 consecutive years have seen an increase in applications at NYU. I believe there is a lot of interest in attending an urban school in terms of college trends lately.

In any case, apps are not down at NYU.

There are approximately 10 applicants accepted to Design and Production so that studio probably should not be included in the calculations becaus it’s very different from the others. Don’t mean to complicate things, but folks often don’t realize that.

Rereading this thread and just had to comment. D is a freshmand at NYU Steinhardt and will be transferring to NYU Tisch NSB in the fall. Her opportunities just keep unfolding. Like in real estate, location, location, location! She gets to see Broadway shows for free through her NYU dorm, and get reduced prices for other shows through NYU. Thanks to a fellow CC member and her daughter, my D was given a fabulous opportunity to work in an NYU Costume shop and can continue there next year. She has been a dresser/wigs/makeup for several NYU shows, and has worked backstage at a recent benefit gala with top broadway stars ( ie ALADDIN). She met a huge movie star on the subway this week and got a picture with him! Star sightings walking around campus in Washington and Union Squares. Where else but New York? No matter what the cost, this experience is beyond anything either of us could have hoped for. And this is just the beginning. Forget all these numbers. Dont’ lose sight of the forest for the trees. Just go for it!

My D is going to “it shoulda been you” for free tonight :slight_smile: gotta love the Tischperks!

I think we are allowed to like NYU on this separate thread :slight_smile:

I’m on my second D in the school. As a studio arts major, she is also loving NYU and the experiences that have unfolded for her. She has a MT background, and has taken several semesters of voice lessons through Steinhardt. She integrates sound and performance into many of her art pieces. For fall 2015, she was selected by invitation only to be part of an exhibition-making class which will stage the music of Mozart’s The Magic Flute with performance art. It will be housed at NYU’s Washington Square East Art Gallery over 4 days next December and then filmed. She will get to be involved in the costume making, stage design, prop-making, make-up and stage managing of the “exhibition.” They might even have some students perform along with an internationally known drag queen star from Berlin. Should be quite the experience!

@uskoolfish - sounds fantastic - I love it!
