NYU/TIsch - Studio Placement

I am a latecomer to this forum and decided to start a new thread on TIsch studio placement because I saw that it seems to be overtaking the general Sharing/Venting forum. My D applied to TIsch hoping to be accepted to New Studio but she selected All Studios when she auditioned. She found out that she was placed in Stella Adler and we are trying to learn more about the studio beyond what we can find on the NYU website. I am wondering whether there is much if any NYU oversight for these “external” studios. Also, will it be really difficult for her to fit voice lessons and some dance training in on her own since it won’t be part of her curriculum? Is there anyone here who is familiar with Adler and whether a kid who’s first love is musical theatre could be happy there? Thanks!

@toowonderful should be able to help

@collegegirl299 - my D is a junior at Tisch in the Adler studio and has LOVED it. There is an NYU liason within the studio - so I would say there is strong oversight. My D took private voice via NYU her freshman year- and has been taking voice outside NYU. She has not done outside dance, but there is a style of dance class in studio every semester. (Freshman year was ballet) Happy to answer any questions you have

@toowonderful - Would love to PM you! Is that possible if I’m a new member?

@collegegirl299 - I will PM you, and you should be able to answer

@collegegirl299 - my D is a current Freshman in Adler (who originally put down that she wanted to be considered only for NSB but changed her mind at her artistic review). Just endorsing @toowonderful, @halflokum & several other Tisch moms (past & present) who were invaluable to me when we were navigating the studio system, and NYU in general. Congrats to your D!

Edited to add - my D’s first love was MT, but as she’s gotten into the training at Adler, she’s realized how much she really enjoys straight-up acting & knows she is where she belongs. She takes voice through Steinhardt, but is a mover, so dance isn’t really her top priority…

My DD who will start in the fall was placed in Meisner. Anyone have any thoughts on Meisner? One question I have is really basic. Physically where is the studio?? Thanks!

Has anyone who didn’t get a studio placement (and got the “several months” email) gotten any additional information?

@NYPAMom I would definitely call if you haven’t already. I just can’t imagine that this is true, and I believe that the latest information is that they will provide studio placements by April 15th.

@NYPAMom My D has not heard anything since the “couple of months” email and she emailed Chris Andersson last week asking for guidance as to when she can expect to hear. To date, she has received no response to that email.

@NYPAMom my D hasn’t received her placement and didn’t receive the email saying it would be a couple of months, we are trying to wait patiently until April 15th.

I feel for you both @lisadianea and @NYPAMom, having to wait yet again!! Wonderful for your kids, though, to at least know they are accepted to Tisch at large instead of being one of those waitlisted. I have a D who was fortunate enough to get her studio placement already (Adler), but I hope you will know by this weekend at least.

Same here. My son emailed Andersson and the Tisch main email – Tisch responded and said to talk to Andersson, who has not responded. He called a while back and they told him placements would be out by the 15th, so we are hoping that is the case!

My son did get his studio assignment yesterday – New Studio! He’s very excited.

My daughter got her studio assignment yesterday too. Also New Studio. Also very excited.

My son got New Studio as well

I’m New Studio !!! So excited ahh
