Hello there! I’m currently a junior in high school determined to pursue a career in acting. One of the schools I am hoping to apply to is NYU Tisch. In order to gain experience and insight into their program, I want to apply for their Summer High School Drama Program. I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me any insight into the application process for the summer program?
In terms of personal experience, I have been performing nearly my whole life, however until recently the majority of my focus has been on dance. I have been dancing since I was three years old and have had reputable classical ballet training as well as extensive performance experience. However, it wasn’t until high school that I realized I had an interest in acting. I have been taking a theater class in school (for 2 years) where we have explored stage and screen acting as well as devised theater. This summer I went to a MT program which included a Grotowski-based acting class. Additionally, I was the lead in my school play this fall. I will be auditioning for my school musical in a few weeks and I am working on pursing acting opportunities outside my school as well.
Currently, the Meisner summer program at Tisch has piqued my interest the most, but I was also considering the Experimental Theater Workshop. For those who have taken either of these programs:
Do you feel I have enough acting experience for my application to be taken seriously? Will my dance/movement background help me in any way? What exactly are they looking for in an application? And finally, what were your experiences at this program?
Thank you!
