Hi friends! I’m a NC resident currently majoring in film/tv production at NYU Tisch and looking to transfer to Chapel Hill’s school of media and journalism as a photojournalism major. I had a rough freshman year (socially, mentally, for a variety of reasons) and, as much as I appreciate and whole-heartedly love the city, find the lack of campus coupled with the oddly passive aggressive / competitive nature of my fellow film students to be off-putting. Don’t get me wrong, there are many EXTREMELY talented and humble students, but many are interested in film and film alone. That’s not really me. I like using film as a medium through which to explore other topics, and completing the freshman film year has made me second guess fiction film production as a career choice. I also enrolled in the program under the belief that it was structured 50% liberal arts and 50% film. The program is more 75% – 80% film, 20% – 25% liberal arts. I love learning, and learning about a variety of subjects, and feel that the program is a little too film intense for my undergrad education goals.
So! I’m looking to transfer into UNC’s more journalistic Photojournalism (documentary photography and media production) major as a junior. I’D LOVE TO BE CHANCED PLZZZZ <3
stats:
In-State!!
CGPA: 3.9 (all A s except for 3 A-s in every writing course I took… which is kinda funny considering I’m a decent writer – so I believe–)
Currently a rising sophomore, and the only gen ed classes I’ve taken are Intro. to Soc, Classics and Cognitive Theory, and two expository writing courses. This fall I’m taking another gen. ed called Global Biocultures, but I’m worried that all the film classes (18 credits per semester) will look like “fluff” courses to a non-film school.
HS GPA: 3.85; high ranking public school in NJ
5 APs (took 2 of the tests, 5 on both), handful of honors
SAT: 2150
SAT II: 710 math 1; 780 bio-e
College ECs: varsity frisbee team :), Girls Who Lift NYU, photojournalist for online newspaper, classical music DJ for WNYU, volunteer financial aid educator for Project College NYC
Also an Emmy Student Scholarship finalist (2014) and a YoungArts Winner in the Cinematic Arts (2014).
I appreciate y’all who took the time to read my rambles. Many thanks.
