Yeah we haven't gotten a response from the NYU FinAid people either since S@tS (even though they told us we'd hear back by Wednesday at the latest...ha!) but to be honest, from what I've heard the MOST anyone's gotten from an appeal is like $2500 more a year (that's what I've heard, there could be exceptions I'm sure). And while of course any bit would help, it sounds like you need more.

But everyone's right, Harvard WILL be a totally amazing experience. And you can get a job and save up all your money for grad school and for film things that all of us at the undergrad program will be scrambling to be able to afford. Plus, who knows, maybe you'll find something you love even more than film while at Harvard!

And yeah, even though you worked really hard to get in, at least you know now that you're good enough to go, and you don't have to fret about whether or not you'll get into film grad school at NYU in 4 years. You know that they want you, and that doesn't change even though you're going to Harvard! (And it's pretty damn cool they want you too!)

Haha and in the meantime I'll just sit here hoping they're gonna fill your spot up in the Tisch Scholars program with another one of us.... (lol if they do I seriously doubt it would be me, but hey, one could hope, right?)

I'm surprised that you haven't heard back from NYU financial aid -- my daughter asked for an appeal at University Day last Sunday, was promised an answer by email within 2 days, and got the answer within the time promised. They only added $1000 to her grant, which was totally inadequate -- but the point is they didn't waste any time.

I'm wondering if things vary depending on the school, because my daughter was dealing with Gallatin, not Tisch.

In any case -- I know it is hard to let go of a dream, but I think sometimes things really do work out for the best, even though it's hard to see at the time. I am sure that you will find that in the long run your Harvard experience will open more doors for you then you would ever have imagined possible -- and you won't have to spend 4 years stressing over money either.

As a parent, one thing I have to remind you youngsters is this: the next 4 years is NOT your whole life. It is just a chapter in your life. What you can't accomplish at one time you can go on to accomplish later on... if life is still leading you in that direction. So yes if you have spent your whole life obsessed with the idea of film school (or whatever your passion is) at Tisch -- it feels like a crushing disappointment, now. But wherever you go you will have the opportunity to learn and experience new things. You might find a new interest and change course; you might meet some person who ends up being just the right connection you need later on to succeed beyond your wildest dreams; and you might just get a terrific education and have a good experience, and go on to study film as a graduate student.
