NYU Tisch Waitlist 2018

HI! My S is waitlisted for NYU Tisch. Just thought I would start a thread for people who are also WL’ed there and hope to get accepted! My S is committing to BU Theater but if NYU comes through we will have a serious discussion as it is his dream school. If anyone gets off WL or gets any emails about it please share! Thanks!

Thanks @HopeinMT . On the waitlist here too. Not sure which program S is committing to yet:) Good call on starting this thread!

Waitlisted for photo and imaging…anyone else?? I can’t find a lot about the photo department, does anyone know how it’s ranked?

Hello, I am currently on the waitlist and I applied for the Film and Television major. Judging by last year’s forums, we should expect to be notified around May 10th. I’m going to be crossing my fingers for a while. In the meantime, I’ve registered to CSU Northridge because they have a great film program.

CSU Northridge is a great film program. Congrats!! @ShadowHero
Crossing fingers for everyone!

My D is WL’ed for tisch dance and just praying every single day. She has already heard of three people who are not attending. Crossing our fingers! best of luck to everyone!

My D is WL’ed for Drama–really wanted NSB but would be grateful to get into any studio at this point. NYU is her dream school and I’m not sure how long we should hold out hope. From those we know who got into Tisch Drama–all have accepted. :frowning: Thanks for starting this thread. I hope all of you get good news!

@Mezzomom12 How do you know it was for actual Drama she got WL’ed for? The studio assignment wouldn’t be given until accepted. My S was just “waitlisted” on his letter, no indication for MT or an Acting studio.
And yes, I have given up hope as everyone we know accepted is committing. Bummer!

The degree is a BFA in Drama for all studios, including MT.

Is everyone you know accepted committing to NYU Tisch for drama? I got waitlisted too (for drama I’m assuming cuz I applied for MT) and it’s my dream school and I’m just praying I get in

My D was waitlisted 2 years ago for BFA Drama (found out she came off on April 24ish) - since she had said in her application that she was auditioning for all studios, and not just MT, we knew that when she came off the waitlist she could be placed anywhere, including NSB, which was her first choice as MT was her first love… She got Adler & happily committed b/c in the end, NYU was the dream! There is always movement on the WL, and some don’t even find out until midsummer. I don’t think there was as much movement last year as there was the year before. Good luck to everyone - sidenote - we made her deposit to another school just hours before she got notification that she had come of the WL…it was a crazy day!

@WTXMom that’s amazing! I really hope that’s what happens to me. I’ve been hoping and praying for good news because NYU is my dream school, so I hope they take the waitlist form into strong consideration.

@WTXMom that is great news!! We put our deposit down for BU already so we could get first dibs on housing & orientation but if NYU came though…I would literally faint. And I am the mom, not even the one who applied! BUT I am a realist and was told there were 500 students given acceptances with a yield of 300 and THEN they go to WL. With everyone I have talked to and read about all seem to be accepting so…I just want my S to be really happy at BU. They wanted him first-choice so he should feel good about that. It is our dream school though. Ahhh…New York!

2,000 applicants for Tisch and they accept 500…not a bad acceptance rate…25%. Don’t give up hope @HopeinMT it may happen for you guys!

@bisouu - the professor/audition panel my D TAs for said they saw well over 3000 this year. And they take 300-400ish, b/c not every studio takes the same amount. So artistic acceptance rate overall is for sure under 20%. Plus there is the 19% academic acceptance rate to contend with.

That’s so weird because every website except this one says Tisch has a 25-26% acceptance rate.

@bisouu - perhaps those that say 25-26% are referring to Tisch school of the arts (which encompasses 11 majors, including drama). In a quick google search I was not able to find any that listed % for drama majors, though did find some like Peterson’s that showed 25% overall for Tisch. But - as academic acceptances gets even harder - again… NYU overall was 19% this year… ( https://www.nyunews.com/2018/03/30/acceptance-rate-drops-to-19-percent-for-the-class-of-2022/ ) that number may be declining too.

A lot of people can’t afford Tisch which can create movement on their WL. Don’t give up yet.

Thanks for the clarification…so in the past couple of years it was in the 30’s (which was great for our kids) and then to 27% last year and now 19%. So many more kids are entering and that is why this year was so tough for so many I believe. Our kids got in at a time when it was a bit easier. I feel for those starting this process in the next few years.

It didn’t feel easy at the time…
