I posted this on the transfer board but they ignorrreeeed me. Alas! Help?

Hi, I'm currently a freshman Classics major at the University of Maryland, College Park. Im looking for urban, northeastern schools that are relatively prestigious. NYU is my dream, but someone on CC told me that its a reach for me, sooo my little dreams have been smooshed. Anyway, Im looking for other peoples opinions, as well as other schools I should apply to (BU, BC, Tufts? Hellllp.)

I took the hardest courseload available in all subjects, except math, at a competitive private school.

GPA
3.6 UW
4.0 W
(If it helps any, my GPA was brought down by consistent B's in math and the math-related sciences ((physics arrrrgh)). My GPA in purely liberal arts courses stands at about a 3.9)
Top 15% of a class of 250 at a competitive private school

AP Scores
English Literature and Composition-5
English Language and Composition-4
US History-4
US Government and Politics-4
European History-4
Spanish-2 (d'oh)

SATI
730V
500M (d'oh)
Should I get math tutoring and retake it as a college freshman?

SATII
Literature-720
Writing-690
US History-660

Awards

EC's
Varsity Indoor Track-9, 10, 11
Varsity Outdoor Track-9, 10, 11 (had to stop due to injury)
Newspaper-10, 11, 12 (World News and Politics Editor 12th grade)
Literary Magazine 11, 12 (Editor in Chief 11th and 12th)
Congressional Seminar on Constitutionality of Guantanamo Bay-12th (only 2 people from school were chosen to go)
100+ hours of community service; I acted as a caregiver for a severely handicapped child, as well as volunteering at various soup kitchens.
Worked 20-25 hours a week during the school year in 11th and 12th grades

I know this list is weak, but it's because track was such an all-consuming thing for me. I was a member of several top-ranked relay teams, and basically that killed all my free time, until I got injured senior year and was able to take on some more academic EC's. Should I mention this? Or should I just shut up about it, since although I don't have a huge amount of EC's, I was in leadership positions for all the ones I participated in?

Im a good writer; I got a mega scholarship to SUNY Purchase for their creative writing program after sending in work samples. Im considering sending in work samples to the schools I apply to, just...because. It could be my "hook" or whatever you crazy kids call it. Even though it has nothing to do with my major.

I had very, very strong recommendations from teachers in my AP classes. And I write good essays, so that should help me as well.

As a first semester freshman, I'm currently taking three 100-level courses, as well as 200 level and a 300 level. As of midterms, I have a 4.0, which I expect to carry through the rest of the semester. Next semester, I'm planning on pulling 19 credits, again with a few upper-level courses thrown in (argh), but only one math class (yay), so my GPA should remain intact.

Any help on getting me out of here would be awesome.
