NYU Transfer Admission

Please, no one kill me if this has already been asked/done (or just give me the URL of the thread where it's been discussed)...

I desperately wanted to go to NYU (CAS) out of high school and was rejected. Can anyone who was accepted as a junior transfer tell me anything about their stats (to CAS)? I will probably have a 3.6 (maybe 3.68) coming out of sophomore year at U. Colorado at Boulder. My majors are English and Italian, and my ECs are in that line. I went to a New England boarding school and earned mediocre grades until my senior year, when I was on the honor roll consistently. Also, I can write fairly well.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. From what I heard, NYU transferring last year was kind of a bloodbath, so I'm very nervous. I applied to one school (Brown) and was rejected, predictably. Thanks for any imput, and I'm sorry if this post is at all redundant.

Also, I am contemplating applying to Gallatin instead of CAS, so if anyone who attends either has any imput, that'd be fantastic. Thanks!

A 3.68 is probably a little low for people they generally accept but since you're coming from Boulder I think you'd have a good shot at CAS. They've been accepting about 31% for the past few years, making NYU quite transfer friendly. I don't know about Gallatin specifically.

That's good news...I want to go into publishing, and Gallatin's whole internship thing sounded good.

I applied as a transfer to Gallatin this year (sophmore transfer) and I also was interested in writing/publishing which i talked about in my essay. I was accepted with a 3.66 (fall semester grades) coming from University of Hawaii (which is nowhere near as good as Boulder). I think you will have a great shot for sure. NYU Gallatin sounds like a good option for you. I was also attracted to the internships but I decided on USC in the end. NYU was one of my top choices though. You should apply next year and then again as a junior if you are rejected again (hopefully not though!). Good luck!

I applied as a junior transfer to Gallatin and got in with a 3.98 cumulative college GPA and 2 really meaningful EC's. My high school stats sucked (1130 SAT, 27 ACT, 3.2 weighted GPA). My professer's recommendation was really good (there were some specific things that I asked her to highlight and she did a very good job of doing so).

However, I think that Gallatin is a little less reliant on concrete info like test scores and GPA and a little more focused on the applicant as a whole. Although I'm sure they want good grades and scores, I think that they really value maturity, writing skills, passion, expression, etc. because of the nature of the program.

I'm a junior transfer into Steinhardt. I got in with a 3.7, good recs and extracurriculars from UC Davis. Im not sure what Gallatin is like but I feel like you'd be fine...collegegirl are you going in next year as a junior?

I won't be attending NYU because I can't see myself taking out all of those loans to attend. I'll be at Barnard next year.

I might actually only have a 3.58 coming out of this fall semester (I'd be applying to be a junior there). Thanks for your imput!

Is anyone actually going? lol
