Hi everyone, I was wondering what my chances would be for transferring because I don't really want to waste fifty dollars if I don't have a shot. Thus I was hoping I could get some feedback from you guys, which I would really appreciate.

Current Status:
George Washington University (second-semester sophomore)
History Major, Cum. GPA: 3.53
First Semester: 2.68
Second Semester: 4.0
Third Semester: 3.9
SAT scores: 2210 total: 740 reading, 720 math, 750 writing
High School: To be honest I'm really not sure. I took tons of AP and honors and generally did pretty well, but then second semester of senior year I really bombed a lot of my classes, so I probably ended up with C's for in pretty much all my major classes for that year. So I know that works against me in a big way.

My only extracurriculars at college are associate editor on the literary magazine, vice chair of the event planning committee, and vice chair of the campus development committee.

To be honest, I'm not really sure if I have a shot but who knows. Anyway, if you guys have any thoughts I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

It was a really a combination of factors: an extension of senioritis, plus too much partying/ not taking school seriously. Plus I had some other issues going on as well that I could explain in a written statement. I understand if that might kill me, but I’m just hoping it won’t. Overal lthough, I’m not sure if the other two semesters make up for the first one. Only other caveat is that I had a W in the third semester.

The freshman year are the easiest to explain and overlook, especially if followed by consistent impovement. Shows you took charge of situation, are capable of damage control, have matured as a person, and willing to work hard and do whatever it takes to get a degree and a great GPA as well.

If you can do well after a bad start, it shows determination and dedication.

Also makes for a good essay while applying, on the lines of “what happened during first semester to result in a low GPA can help to answer the question about motivation. Avoid excuses at all costs!! What you want to communicate is that you made some mistakes in your freshman semester, you regret them, and you have done x, y, and z to demonstrate how responsible and prepared you are.”

Again 1-2 W are easy to explain, was afecting your GPA or wrong choice of course or sickness.

Yeah I’m hoping I can put in a strong essay along the lines of, i admit the first semester was poor but i’ve clearly improved and shown I can achieve at a very high level. Maybe that will give me a chance.
