NYU Transfer Chances

I was only going to apply to Fordham, Iona, and a few others but I'm thinking about NYU as a reach school. Is there a slim possibility or no? Like I said I know it's a reach but is it a crazy reach?

Alright I'm in my freshman year of CC and I plan on transferring to a school for Fall 09. I hope to leave with around 27-30 credits and a 3.6 or above GPA. I'm currently involved with my film club at school and held 2 jobs for 2 years in high school.

In high school I was on the school paper, key club, FBLA, and tv production at one point or another. I went to 4 high schools in 4 years which was rough. I graduated with a 3.4 gpa from high school, but I did horrible on the SAT's like 970 (Verbal/Math). I write a killer essay if that counts for anything.

So I have good EC's and hopefully a 3.7 CC GPA? Is it a normal reach school or a wayyyy out there reach school?

you didn’t mention which nyu school you’re applying to - your chances of Stern, for example, would be much different than your chances of Steinhardt.

well, if its cas, i probably wouldnt bother applying…fordham is very outside possibility, but i guess worth a shot…iona could be a match

I’m majoring in marketing/communications.

What could I do on my application to improve? If I get a 3.8 would that help me out dramatically or should I take the SAT’s over? I kinda screwed it the only time I took it and usually got like 1170’s on the PSAT

why are people so eager to transfer one month into college?

if your applying to cas for fall 09, that means you are only applying with one semester worth of grades…most people who are successful transfer applicants from a cc usually have two years under there belt and a 3.9-4.0…showing them one semester from community college of a 3.6-3.8 after a weak hs record and not many ec’s is, lets say, not setting yourself up for success

i’d put nyu out of your head…if you really want to get out of your current college look at some colleges that are going to be more realistic to get into, of, if you have your heart set at nyu, put in two years, get that 4.0, get some leadership positions and you’ll have a shot…but for now, not happening

Dufflebag,

Alright thanks. My heart wasnt set on it lol. So what other schools in the New York area fit me better in your opinion? Anything within 45 mins of the city would be nice. Also I would like a nice amount of prestige from the school, so thats why I’m looking at Fordham/Iona

well, CC students have to transfer after 2 yrs anyway, so if I was in CC and felt like I wasn’t being challenged enough, I would wanna get out of there as well.

So you’re applying to CAS I’m assuming? Just making sure since communications is a Steinhardt major. Either way it’s a long shot. If I were you, I would apply later to boost my chances. They’re basically going to see you did well first semester of community college, and poorly in hs. Your killer essay will stand out, but so will your SAT score. If you retake the SAT’s, aim for a 1250-1450 this time. Good luck. If you have any questions about NYU life, feel free to ask.

new school may be a reach, but it may not, i dont know much about it but have heard good things from people who go there..right in manhattan, somethng to look into

marymount manhattan, the cuny system, pace university, couple others

good luck
