Nyu transfer fall 2010....help

Hey everyone I go to Ohio State University and I'm majoring in economics through the business school. Currently the Fisher College of Business is ranked 16th for undergraduate business. I want to transfer to Stern because Fisher really lacks an international focus. My career goals are international and i feel like I would benefit quite a lot from Stern. Also I'm a local and have spent many summers on campus. I think It's time I move on, I want to be able to interact with a more diverse student body. I plan to transfer as a junior. Am I at a disadvantage beacuse I'm transferring from one business school to another. Will this hurt or help me.

I doubt they’ll care. What are some of your stats?

If anything, it’ll probably help in the sense that you’ll have finished most, if not all, of the required classes for applying. But yeah, it’ll depend a lot on your stats.

BTW, if you’re interested in international business, consider USC Marshall. It has the most international students of any college in the US and tries to emphasize the importance of international experience within business.

High School Stats

GPA: 4.1 weighted
AP Classes: AP BIO, AP Language, AP LIT, AP Calculus AB, Ap Statistics, AP Government, AP Chemistry

I went to a very competitive suburban public school, they stopped ranking because it was too competitive.

ACT: 29 :frowning: :frowning:
SAT Subject tests: Bio: 730 Math 1:730

Akalboy you’re right, my classes match up pretty well with stern’s cirriculum. I’m right where i’m supposed to be. I’m currently in a very competitive Honors program in the business school.

College GPA: 3.66

I got a few B’s in General cirriculum classes such as chemistry and computer science. All my major classes have been A’s or A-'s.

Since OSU is on the quarter system I can submit my winter quater grades as part of my application. so hopefully my winter quarter GPA will be around a 3.74.

I helped co-found a consulting firm at OSU. We do pro-bono consulting work for non-profits. We come up with marketing strategies, business plans etc. Currently we are doing projects for about 6 Clients.

Everything seems top notch except for your College gpa, which will hurt you big time. However if you write a kick ass essay and acquire some top notch recs, you never know. If you desperately want to leave OSU, look for some safeties.

PS- NYU doesn’t require you to submit SAT/ACT scores if you have 30 or more credits at the time of application

OrsonSwells Fall and Winter quarter I’m going to study my a** off and my GPA will be over a 3.7. I’m taking difficult Honors classes so will NYU take that into consideration ex. Honors accounting classes and such. Accounting by itself is pretty hard so you can imagine how hard the Honors version is going to be. Also I took up to Calculus 3. Should i take anymore math classes?

My other EC’s Are:

Writer for Fisher INK (the undergraduate business publication)
Was inducted into Mirrors ( A Sophmore class service honarary)
A member of the Cardinal Health Mentorship Program
University Host (host perspective students)

Work as a bank teller

am i missing something? isn’t 3.66 a pretty good gpa? it might not be absolute highest, but it’s an A-.

A 3.66 is on the low end for NYU Stern, which is VERY competitive. The OP certainly has a chance, but he/she will be competing against applicants with 4.0s and extraordinary ecs.

what should i do to improve my chances?

Also what are considered to be extraordinary ec’s?

I think your good to go!
Im planning on transfering on a 3.2 gpa which I know is terrible! but hopefully the rest of the app carries me in. Im going for CAS.

All the best!
