i want to transfer to NYU after my sophomore year here in illinois but the thing is, my SATs are not that impressive. i really mean NOT impressive! i bombed the thing. although i do have a 4.0 right now (freshman) and expect atleast 3.85 by the end of my sophomore year (with associates degree under my belt) here in this community college, i feel like i dont stand a chance to get accepted as a transfer to NYU. are my SATs going to cut my chance of getting in despite a good gpa? as for my extra curricular activities, im in great status: ncaa player in volleyball and tennis, phi theta kappa honors society, lots of clubs and lots of welfare/community service stuff. i know my application will ride smoothly along the lines of extra curricular activities, college gpa, essays and recommendations but im worried that my poor SATs will overshadow the fact that im a good candidate (hope they see it that way). so, whats your input?

wait, i thought NYU did not look at sat scores if you are a transfer student

"Standardized tests are an important part of the admissions process. All applicants to NYU must provide official test scores from either the SAT I examination or the ACT examination. If you have taken these tests more than once we will use your highest combined SAT I scores or your highest ACT scores in evaluating your application.

If you are applying as a transfer student and you took either one of these tests while in high school, you should not retake the tests now; simply submit the results of your high school SAT I or ACT examinations. If you did not take SAT I or ACT examinations in high school and have been in college less than one year, you must take one of these tests and submit the results as part of your application. International students who are in an area where the ACT Writing Test is not offered must take the SAT. "

SAT's are important for NYU I guess. They state that if you've been in college less than one year you must take it and submit it, but they don't clairify if you have to if you've been in college longer (you probably don't have to but they wouldn't want to say that). I know your still a freshman but perhaps you'd like to apply next semester when they'd only look at your grades, which you'd definately get in with imo. Good luck,

but be sure to email them about it to check it out. Then you won't send anything. However it may be tricky because if you apply this time and get rejected and then apply next semester they'll still have your SAT's but if you only apply next semester and not submit your scores you might have a better shot, get what I'm trying to say? Sorry if I'm unclear.

if you have already done 2 yrs of college im almost positive that you dont need them! Good luck! I'm applying to NYU as a transfer too!

bearclaw15: apparently, they do take the SATs into consideration.
jackandjill: so its best if i applied after my sophomore year? is that what youre saying? it makes sense though, i guess having 2 years of college will already overshadow the SAT results. right?
kaitylin: good luck to us! so you think they wont look at SATs if youve done 2 years of college?... lets keep our fingers crossed for that thought.

The reason why I suggested applying as a Junior is that you may not even have to submit your SAT scores. You should check with them as they don't say you don't have to, they just say that you have to do so if you are a freshman. In fact you may be able to apply without submitting your SAT scores as a sophmore, askem :)

thanks jack and jill...

Transfer Applicants - Standardized Tests

YOU HAVE TO SUBMIT SAT SCORES TO NYU, WHY DO PEOPLE THINK OTHERWISE ALL THE TIME!!!

You have to submit if you are a freshman or transfer with under 60 units I believe. If you tansfer after sophomore year they don't need them, just after freshman year.

where on the website does it say this? where are you getting this information? from everything ive heard and seen on the website...ALL transfer students to NYU need to send their SAT scores

just call admissions and ask them.

How bad were your test scores? What did you score that you think is so horrible?

The SAT isn't going to make or break your admittance; if so, they would allow you to retake them during college.

well i mean in my case, im sure it will hinder my chances of getting in as a junior. i got a 1060...GASPPPP

Some ppl here are really arguing for something that they dont assure. There is a reason why our fellows here suggested not to submit SAT scores. Go to the NYU forum where the admission box is and read their replies. They state clearly that you dont have to submit SAT scores at all if you have been that long in college ( when you apply for your junior year I guess). Hope this can stop the dispute.
Peace out

well just to clarify everything, ive called NYU undergrad admissions and they said that junior transfers are reviewed not by their SATs but by their college course rigor and performance.

No offense Knix, that doesn't really answer the question. Do we have to submit our scores (if we're transferring as juniors) or not?

If you took 'em, they want 'em. If you didn't take 'em, then don't take them now because they don't count.

they dont come into play that much (thank god!) but if you took them they want them. if not, don't worry aobut it.

NinaBanina,
