NYU Transfer Thread - Fall 2010

irst of all castiel that wasnt why. its my low SAT scores and my essays were good. and it was my UC essays that were the best. and you shouldnt be talking bc i applied to stern and you were in the CAS which is easier to get into than a fking community college. business schools are the most competitive so shut up ahole. and my gpa is higher than yours and my ec’s are better and i have connections to actual authors and a guy who owns a hedge fund company. what do you have? nothing so shut your stupid mouth.

guys please don’t say that to each other. It’s a place where we share information to help each other make better assessments. No one is trying to be arrogant by saying that I have a great essay. Please, some of us might become fellow classmates in the near future, be nice to each other.

Okay lets please NOT get into huge arguments based on stats here, I’d say you’re both extremely intelligent individuals. Admissions, as I said before have a ****ton of random factors that affect their decisions.

What were your SAT scores like poleandreel?
(IF you dont mind sharing)
And Id also greatly appreciate it if you could send me your main transfer essay. :)

^agreed with both of you.

Butt NYU CAS is a fine school and certainly not easier to get into than comm college. that being said, change of subject

what are your guys’ majors?

I’m pre Pharmacy major now. I just wanna go to NYU for majoring in Arts for my B.A. Then I’ll probably go to Rutgers Pharmacy that’s the only school I want to go

cool I a lot of my friends are art majors. NYU has a really good program for that, and the fact its only a subway ride from the met, MOMA, and the museum of nat hist makes it so much better

I applied Gallatin for art and Neuro Biology and prelaw

@pole: then why didn’t you apply/get into cas in high school if it’s easier to get into than a CC?

and fyi, i got waitlisted by CAS as a freshman.i know a VP of goldman sachs, lawyers at skadden/fulbright jaworski, and nobel laureates+pultizer prize winners at columbia (as in, we’ve had more than 5 conversations and know one another’s names). Do I expect my connections to get me into columbia or land a GS internship? HELL NO. it’s your body of work and your numbers (as well as your ethos)that get you in.

as for your GPA, how many hard science classes did you take? math? i dont want to reignite the flame war, because you are obviously hurting from your decision and castiel did touch a nerve w/ regards to the quality of your app, but your previous post seems to insinuate that castiel, relative to you, did not deserve his acceptances to either nyu or cornell. insulting his obviously successful application makes your post trollicious.

try to put it behind you and hope that your other decisions turn out better.i got 14 rejections spanning from from my dream school to my safety state school, and i got over it. just hope you don’t get denied from all your schools.

melonbread: actually ive taken 2nd level philosophy, economics, accounting, and english. and i didnt really care if i got rejected from stern. i didnt go to a community college out of high school bc i got a full scholarship to st johns for their business school which happens to be on of the best accouting programs. only 15 ppl that apply get that scholarship. id rather not go into 40,000 debt going to nyu cas which isnt even good at all. its an overrated overpriced school. except for tisch and stern it is virtually a waste of money

has anyone else gotten decisions … @polandreel did you get your decision via email or in the mail

thanks melonbread. whatever, lets let poleina55 think what he wants…

did you get any decisions yet melonbread? haha vandy came out a few days and i got in, woot! full financial aid too

no castiel =( i enailed the admissions office and was told i’d be getting my decison this week and that i don’t need to send in the SGR.

and congrats on the full fin. aid for vandy! how is the cornell FA looking?

Melonbread, what’s an SGR? And are you applying to Stern at all?
If yes, then I’m surprised that they can tell you an exact time span within which you’ll know your decision.

Oh and congrats, Castiel.

sorry for the confusion dhruvds, i was talking about vanderbilt, which is releasing its decisions right now. i emailed vandy and they told me that my decision was made and would be arriving shortly, so i don’t need to send in a spring grade report (SGR).

and i applied to gallatin, i’m not too interested in doing purely econ/business studies. i emailed nyu about the status of my application, but no replies yet. i don’t want to call b/c i’m afraid i’ll get yelled at by a sleep deprived admissions assistant =(

Melonbread91/If u get into Vandy and Gallatin where do u plan to go?

if (and this is a big if) my bank loan gets approved then i…actually don’t know haha. i would like to stay in ny, but i think i like vandy as a school better, although gallatin is better my my interdisciplinary interests, so i can’t choose =(

I see. I actually applied only Gallatin one shot lol

Omg, Im farrrrrr too anxious. I really just wanna know now. :(

Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum but as I’m seeking information from this site, I think it only fair that I post some as well…

I know that decisions for NYU were coming out as early at April 14th. I know this because I was actually accepted on April 14th. Granted, I have an extremely obscure major (Russian and Slavic Studies) in CAS, but yeah, it was surprisingly early. I’m still waiting to hear from Columbia, but I’m thinking I may just stay at my current school if I don’t get into Columbia.

If you want my stats to compare with…
College GPA: 3.63 at a top 20 university
High School GPA: not really relevant because I applied for junior transfer, but it was around a 3.65
SAT: 1410/1600 and 2180/2400, again not really relevant for me though
I don’t have particularly stellar ec’s, mostly writing for a campus publication and a member of a dance group here on campus.

I know this is pretty late in the game, but if anyone has any other questions for me, let me know!
