NYU Transfer Thread - Fall 2010

Got my Gallatin acceptance today too! Congrats everyone!

Congrats! If I made a fb group for Gallatin transfers, would anyone else join? I would really like to get to know some of my future classmates.

**[Here](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook)[/b] is the link for the NYU Fall 2010 transfers group that bjelifish made for all NYU transfers.

Any CAS acceptances yet guys?

You know, we might have to wait a while longer because for the people that they asked midsemester grades from, the deadline was last Friday so they probably still need to review the applications again.

They haven’t asked for midterm grades. Is that a good thing or bad since I have not heard anything yet? ):

@Xclusive05:

If you haven’t heard from them, I wouldn’t worry about it. You can always call tomorrow to check that your application is all set though, for your own peace of mind.

for some reason I wonder if the application is sorted by an alphabetic order. i’m not saying they make decisions strictly in that order, but maybe it’s a possibility? my last name starts with Y and i still haven’t heard anything, and my friend who transferred to Stern 2008 got notified on June 1 and his last name starts with W. both of ours credentials were strictly on time and no mid term grades were asked.

we’ll see next week. good luck everyone.

guys, stop worrying. My theory is that they send out a batch of decisions with a limited acceptance period, an based on how many accept, they send a new batch.

oh, and a non-working netID means NOTHING. period.

When do you guys think is the latest we will hear? I definitely need to call them tomorrow since I haven’t ever…

Also my last name starts with a D and I also haven’t heard anything, so I doubt it’s alphabetical…

My last name starts with Y
haven’t heard anything no net ID
i’m glad to heard non working net ID means nothing :]

Today my net id thing finally worked.

I guess I am in.

Now I am debating between NYU and UMich.

What do you guys think and why?

@immcdonald. when you created your Net Id. did you get an email about it after it was created? I activated mine and i didnt copy down it down and then someone told me that’s my email address. -___-

got into CAS today, but I am turning them down so good luck for someone on the waitlist!!!

@macdonald- i say go for michigan, one because it has a campus, two because it has an awesome student body with lots of schools spirit, and three because i just like it more haha what are you planning on in majoring? what kind of atmosphere are you looking for etc. then i might be able to give a real answer

michigan has far less resources for its students than NYU. if you your resources well at NYU, you will be far more successful than if you went to michigan… the quality of education is also better, not to mention a better rep in NYC.

@Athletics12

I am majoring Economics/Mathematics, but at the end of the road, I want to study marketing/management. (Either by going to grad school or going to Ross perhaps?)
In Michigan I would have a chance to apply for a Ross school since they allow transfer students to do internal transfer.
In NYU I will have no choice but to major Economics/Math.
I am from University of Wisconsin-Madison, so I kind of know how the campus life is like.
However, I did not really enjoy Madison as it was too rural for me.
Also, one thing that I didn’t like about is that students tend to be too lose in public schools.
Let me know what you think,

@hookedongtown
Well I am not no sternie :frowning: , so I don’t know how much resources or opportunities I will get, considering I am an international student as well.
Also, there is quite a bit of a difference in costs. with NYU being much more expensive.
I don’t know if the opportunity cost of attending NYU exceeds the benefit of not attending. (saving money)

@hookedongtown:

That’s not necessarily true. I know you’re international, so from an overseas perspective, NYU has a bigger name since it’s in a more urban environment. However, UMich is actually the better school of the two. You can check the stats and quality ratings of the professors. (I realize this sounds snappish. It’s completely unintentional. I understand where you’re coming from since I’ve spent half my life overseas. In the states though, it’s acknowledged that they’re at least equally impressive institutions of higher education.)

For inmacdonald:

You can’t really lose either way. If you’re looking to work in NY when you graduate, NYU would probably allow you easier connections, but if not, it totally depends on your preference. They’re both completely different environments and have equally fantastic reputations. It all comes down to what you want in your school so you don’t have to transfer out another time.

Just called admissions and told them I needed to tell another school if I am coming or not and they told me if I was admitted or not…

STERN TRANSFER ADMIT CLASS OF 2013!!!

the person means that you should make the decision first and they will tell you their admssion decision afterwards?

@octoberbay:

honestly, most would say:

NYU Stern/CAS > UMichigan (seriously, getting in to this school, especially if you’re a resident of Michigan, is extremely easy!!!)
