NYU Transfer Thread - Fall 2010

I emailed this morning, and I was told that I will revieve a letter by the middle of next week. Obviously it is a rejection, T.T

I called today. The girl told me the same thing too. I guess I will get a rejection as well.
I thought 4.0 GPA was impressive enough. sigh T_T

same here. I got a email reply today saying “you should receive a letter by the end of the week”.

0.0 feel bad

but let’s see it this way. there were cases weeks ago when people could guess the decision based on the usage of “package” or “letter”. Im assuming later the student ambassadors were told to use only the word “letter” in such occasions. Cheer up people, we are almost there! Don’t be too negative.

but are you able to active ne NetID? I cannot

I got accepted a week ago and I still can’t activate it.

I finally received an email with details about the whole study abroad issue; it explicitly stated that it was because they ran out of housing.

@ octoberbay

Would you mind telling your stat?

@yuittywu:

I don’t see why not. Here they are:

HS GPA: I think it was around a 3.3, but the whole scale was messed up (I only got 3-4 B+'s all through HS, the rest were A’s)
SAT I: 660 Math, 660 Reading, 600 Writing
SAT II: 710 Literature, 600 Math I
AP: 4 on Lang. & Comp
College GPA: 3.44 1st semester at a prestigious university/ 3.75 2nd semester at a state school

I didn’t have many EC’s (like 5 or 6), but I was very dedicated to them.

I’m an english major, so I think I had some really great essays; the big one especially on why I wanted to transfer to NYU.

I only had one letter of recommendation from my adviser and he kindly let me read it. It was only 2.5 paragraphs long, but he managed to write the nicest words anyone has ever said about me in it.

I think overall, my essays and my rec were what sealed the deal. Plus, my EC’s were pretty quirky. For example, I put Harry Potter Club as the most important to me.

I’m an average student; not insanely bright, nor am I dimwitted. I like to think of myself as a well-rounded individual, since I’m pretty balanced. I think they picked me because they liked my voice in my essays (the New Yorker I wanted to meet was a 19th century madame who slept with Charles Dickens among other celebrities of the time) and knew that I was choosing NYU for its atmosphere, not its location.

@octoberbay:
Do you think I have a shot? I am so nervous now. I dont know what to say~

MY HS GPA was a mess: Only 2.4 (do you actually care about HS GPA?)
GPA: 4.0 (39 credits) state school as well
SAT 1700/2400
I have a letter of recommendation from my boss.
I have several awards, such as Emerging Male Leader at University of North Texas, Chief of scout, Champ of scout skill competition, champ of game designer, TAPPS (computer science) 3rd, etc.
Vice president of Volunteer league and Hong Kong Student Association.
Leader of scout club, and alternative spring break.

I think my essays were alright.

I just got an email (applying internationally, but I’m American) accepting me to CAS Pre-law this morning… it doesn’t say I have to study abroad, but instead offered the option to as sort of a “if you get so lucky because it’s limited” thing, but I’m hoping I have housing…?

@bergdorfbrunette:

congrats! Are you able to active your NetID?

Also, yuittywu, my HS GPA was like 3.3 and my college GPA from first semester was 3.3 too (though I did sleep through one of my finals, which lowered my grade a lot, and I explained that), and I got in pretty sure on the basis of my essay/short answers, so don’t worry about numbers too too much!

I can activate the NetID now, though I haven’t tried for the past week or so and I was unable to before that

Thanks, bergdorfbrunette!
You will have brand-new GPA, so dont worry =] I feel much better now, thanks!

Still haven’t heard back and I am so so so nervous!!! Please don’t reject me, NYU.

Anytime! I know what it’s like waiting… ahh. I have no idea if I’m actually going to accept though, I go to the American University of Paris right now, which is the best experience in the world, but at the same time it’s kind of hard to turn down NYU for a school no one really knows.

@gummyVV

No, I can’t either. tomorrow i’m gonna find out!

@yuittywu
which school do you apply to

@eyip8899
