NYU Transfer

Hey! So I’m a second year student at a reputable community college in upstate New York interested in transferring to NYU this upcoming year.

I have about 55 college credits under my belt thus far and maintain a ~3.35 GPA, which will be higher once final grades from this semester have been submitted.

I have a TON of extracurriculars (volunteering/sports/jobs/internship) and a pretty excellent essay, which mentioned that I had a brain tumor so maybe that’ll strike some sympathy in admissions counselors? Haha.

I’ve been named to Dean’s List multiple semesters (and will be for Spring 2016 semester as well).

My SAT scores we’re not the best but not the worst either, 1880/2400.

My high school GPA wasn’t great, but I talked to an admissions counselor who said that since I’ve been out of high school for a significant amount of time (graduated 2 years ago), they will weigh their decision more heavily on my collegiate courses instead.

NYU isn’t my first choice and I know it might be a stretch, but I just thought I’d get some opinions to see if it’s worth a shot.

Can you afford NYU? It’s notorious for giving ungenerous FA, and it’ll probably be even less generous for transfer students.

@GMTplus7 Yes, luckily my grandparents are paying for it so cost isn’t an issue.
