NYU Transfer

I was rejected by NYU Stern (top reach school) and I got into BU and Baruch.

I have a few questions to ask about how to apply as a transfer to STERN. i read the forum a bit but it hasnt answered my questions so i decided to make a topic...

1) Do people typically apply as a transfer after their first year? (this is a general question) and i know nyu stern dosent allow spring semester transfers so i have to stay at one school for a year.
2) typically how many people tdo they accept? I read somewhere they accept 30% of transfers... is this true for both 1st year / 2nd year transfers?
3) I want to ask for advice... would I be better off going to boston university or baruch for my first 2 years? Boston U , i have to pay about 20k including room and board. Baruch, for free...

Eventually i'll try to transfer to nyu, so which is a better choice for me?

thanks a lot for the help. i appreciate it.

Our D transferred at the end of her first year. Key thing, I think, is to demonstrate you can do quality work - get a 3.8 or so and you'll increase your odds. And make sure you take as many of the required frosh Stern courses as you can (D called the admin office to ask what they were looking for).

As for transfer acceptance rates, much of that depends on the attrition rate of this year's incoming freshman class.

Your D transfered into Stern? If so, did she come from a community college or a very good college?

The thing is... I really want to go to Stern, but my parents are pushing me to attend BU for one year. At BU, I don't think I can get a 3.8 ... At Baruch though, I might be able to get a 3.8 ...

Does NYU look at how hard the competitive the school is in general?

BTW Baruch is a public college in new york city.

She transferred from a top 50 university (equivalent to BU based on SATs of admitted freshmen, where BTW she was also accepted as an incoming freshman) that was a tad too far from home.

You might call (or visit, if you're close enough) the NYU admissions office and get some information on transfer stats and acceptance rates from various schools, as well as exactly what they are looking for in terms of coursework.

when transferring, does it matter what college u come frmo?

comparing BU to Baruch, if i go for a year and get higher in baruch than if i attend BU... does that increase my chances of getting accepted into nyu?

3.8 at baruch...
3.0 at BU ...

transfer c hances for NYU?

bump (10charr)

3.8 at baruch. 3.0 is just too low.

choose whichever school you'd like better. it's hard to get into stern, period. i'd say you don't have much of a shot unless you have at least a 1450 for reading and math on your SATs.

i remember in one of the old forums for transferring (some guy who has biggyboy as their username or something like that) that a guy from baruch transfer to stern. therefore i dont think the school matters. if i were you i will think about saving money but then i would prefer the BU campus atmosphere.

btw i heard BARUCH is really hard... lots of my friends have like low gpas there but then again i heard BU intentionally deflates gpas freshman year to prevent people from transferring, therefore giving the impression of high retentional rate and harder transferring acceptances. try to do some research

Hey Guys! Like you, I really want to attend NYU and I already turned in my application for Spring 2009. Just wanted to get your feedback:

High School:

GPA: 3.51 :[[[
SAT: 1220 :[[[
With AP: English, Biology, Econ, Government, Psych, Spanish, US History.

EC: Student Government, Water Polo/Swimming, Senate.

I was top 15 percent of my school.

As you can tell I really messed up in High School.

College:

This is my first year and I am taking many units during summer school.

GPA: 3.7
I already took Calc I and Critical English/Argumentative Writing

EC: Phi Theta Kappa, Student Government (committees, senate), Soccer, Scholars Honors Club, Working 30 Hours/Week, Psychology Club (next semester), YMCA Volunteering.

The THing Is my first semester I messed up and got a 3.0, but I worked really hard and I will have a 3.7 by the end of this summer session (so far 4.0). I already accumulated 56 units.

I was also already denied last year applying as a freshman.

Do you think admissions will see I took so many units and take that into consideration?

I've been in college for one whole year and I am going to start my second after summer semester.

I applied to CAS.

AHHHHH

what do you think?
