Hello, I'm going alwto be an incoming freshman at a private school this fall
However, I would like to transfer to NYU for next year.
So
My High School Stat:
GPA:3.53(unweighted/weighted; school only has one GPA; top 60 best high school in U.S.)
ACT: 27w/ writing score of 10
volunteer: 80hours
Soccer - 3 years in high school
In Highschool, I did not apply because I felt that my stats were a little too low.
So, y final question is that if I get a GPA of 3.8~4.0 in my first semester of college
what are my chances of getting into NYU as a sophomore transfer?
If it's very unlikely should I wait for junior transfer?
(I will be applying as an econ major)
Thank you so much!
P.S. current school that I will be attending is ranked under top 100.

if you apply for sophomore transfer, they will still take into account your high school record.

you should wait for junior year, considering your ACT is below the average and your ECs aren’t that great. just enjoy your first two years at your college (you haven’t even spent any time there yet!) and think about transferring later on in your college career.

Thanks for your comment.
I know that my EC’s aren’t so great, so I was planning on starting a volunteer job immediately when the school started.
Also, if I do decide to apply as a transfer this year with a near 4.0 GPA, would I at least have a good shot at it?
NYU has been my dream school, and it’s where I would really like to be…

ughhhhhh.

all transfers say that they will have a near 4.0 when they get to college, but you don’t really know you will have one. and honestly, with how transfer admissions are going now, no, you wouldn’t have a shot if you tried to apply this year. sorry. i don’t really see any hooks or any sort of special experiences that would separate you.

i transferred as a sophomore (started in spring 2008) but i had tons of ECs and internship experience and i played a varsity sport. i had a 3.45 and i was rejected ED in high school.

You’re in the position I was in when I graduated. They’ll only really have 1 semester of grades to go on when making their decision which won’t be enough to erase your HS record. Take the next year or two to build your resume and build a good GPA, 3.7+.

Also be sure to be able to articulate why NYU in particular, and don’t answer that you want to live in NYC.

hm i got accepted for fall transfer this year, and my ACT wasn’t much higher than yours. but my gpa was close to a 4.0 and i had interesting ec’s. idk… i would just enjoy the school you’re at and try not to worry about transferring yet

Apply, and if you don’t get in try the next year. I don’t get why it’s an all or nothing deal. Why shouldn’t you apply? The worst thing that could happen is that you don’t get in and have to try again.

I’m in the same situation. I haven’t even started college and already know I want to transfer.
