NYU, Tulane, GWU

Can someone please speculate on my chances of getting into these schools? (I see this as an unparalleled opportunity to either assuage or exacerbate my anxiety.)

Female, public school, Northeast

Weighted GPA: 4.21
Unweighted: I don't actually know. It's something like a B+.
Rank: 105/325

SAT: 2060
--subjects: 780 lit, 700 history, 660 bio

Just based on that, do I have a chance of getting into NYU & GWU? I also applied to Bard, BU, SF State, Tulane, UMass, Hampshire, and others.

All but NYU are matches and NYU is just a slight reach....

Thanks for the reply. What do you think would give me an edge, then, at NYU, in terms of ECs and whatever?

Anyone else? Hpg90 might just be really nice, or just wants to falsely raise my hopes before the inevitable rejection.

Realize, that it's not just stats. TONS of kids apply to NYU and other schools. But things like ECS, reccs and essay distinguish them from others. Who knows?

Maybe, I'll be seeing you at NYU Fall '08!

Hokai...I feel pathetic listing them. Basically, I'm involved with my school's three publications (leadership position in one of them), I've done a lot of various volunteer things (the most consistent was 100 hours at the library over the summer) and I have been doing pre-college type summer programs since 8th grade (though I've heard more people call them useless as an admissions factor than not). And I got National Merit Commended.

I just got into gwu ed2 yesterday, and was accepted to tulane in november. so i've experianced the bell curve of this horrendous year and am here to bring you some relief (and not just bc I have a soft spot for jens lekman, which i inevitably do!!)

okay, so i had an 1870 sat (your beating my ass in that department)
annnnd i had a B+ gpa unweighted in hard classes, like physics and ****.
my extra currics were mad unimpressive- i do a lot of art but that's about it.

i think you'll be fine for everywhere... maybe nyu will be tough, but it depends which school you're applying too. good luck and i really hope i helped!

oh, i also got into bard early action. you'll be more than fine there.

Yay! Congratulations on getting into all these awesome schools. Hopefully I'll get in...somewhere. There are other factors, like the fact that my school is looked down upon in the eyes of college admissions officers, but we'll see.

Umm, so I've gotten into Tulane. So far. And I haven't heard from Bard, NYU, or GWU. So I'm going to take that as a bad sign.

Ahh, and I was waitlisted at GWU. Aaand I am updating this for no one. But I guess people should know that chance threads are stupid, and they don't tell you anything, really.

You are unlikely to get into NYU either--sorry--but don't despair--NYU tells very few about their status prior to April 1st, so there is still hope.

What you and everyone else on here failed to look at was your rank--you are not in the top 25% at your high school--and all of these schools that you applied to have about 60% of their students come from the top 10%.

It's time to pull back just a little bit and start comparing your rank with the rank of the schools you want to attend.

Your 2060 SAT is a very good score, however. Still, I would have thought that closer matches for you would have been schools like Boston University, Penn State, and Ohio State--not NYU and George Washington. Fortunately, you are already in at Tulane--and that's a very good school.

Best of luck with your remaining schools--and with your studies at Tulane or anyplace else you choose to attend.

jenslekman (you must be a fan!) if you're interested, i suggest you push to get off the waitlist at GW. If you were from anywhere but the northeast, you would have gotten in in a heartbeat. my daughter is there, a freshman, and she's a jens lekman fan too! wasn't sure she liked the place at first, but has found her niche.
