NYU, Tulane, Vanderbilt, etc. and Suggestions PLEASE

Alright, I did this last time and wrote a rambling chunk with far too many streams of consciousness... I type too fast... and I received 1 response.

Chances at NYU, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Washington and Lee, GWU, Georgetown?

SAT I: 1330
Not sure on the verbal/math breakdown, I called in just a month ago and have not received a hard copy report. Plan to take 3 SAT IIs as well.

Predicted final UW GPA: 3.55 or 3.60
Predicted final rank: 20th Percentile(competitive school)

ECs are generally pretty good including:
Student Council
National Honors Society
2-time NYLF Technology Forum attendee
People to People Attendee
Various Community Service Hours(this needs to be compiled, but it's a mediocre amount of community service)
[will be] 4-year member of the School District's Student Advisory Committee(only 2 students per grade, per school, chosen. In my case, a girl and myself out of nearly 1000 kids in our now-Junior class).
Member of the School District's Committee which advises the School Board(large district, mind you... there are even fewer students, perhaps 4 or 5, on this 200 person council).
Founder and President of a Political club
4-year member of the Golf Team
"Overall Student of the Year" Freshman Year

And I'll have some excellent recs, from a few congressmen who I've gotten to know, as well as the superintendent of the school district who is quite an important fellow in his own right, possibly some business-world heavyweights.

Those are just a few colleges on the table that I am considering applying to, granted that I could possibly get into one or two of them. For an extreme safety school, you could say, that I actually would quite enjoy attending even over some of those mentioned, I have academic admit to Texas A&M University.

ALSO finally consider that I will be either a poly sci. major or a finance major. The former, hence the inclusion of W&L, the latter, hence the NYU inclusion. I'm not too knowledgable on the "diamond in the rough" schools, so please make suggestions!

Thanks!

Oh, come now, surely someone will help me out?

your probably in all of those, unless sat is a problem, 1330 is good, but if you could have gotten 1400 i think you would definetly be in. i dont know if colleges will care about overall student of the year because what does that mean? are you friends with your principal, how does that work?

Are you a senior? I got into NYU this year RD through their General Studies Program with a 1320 SAT. From what I've heard, acceptees to CAS had at least a 1360 or higher... and if you go the finance route with Stern that minimum will go up, so GSP will probably be your best bet as well. Sorry, I don't know about the other schools....

Got into Tulane with lower scores than yours.

Here is the link to the Vanderbilt Class of 2008 profile. http://www.vanderbilt.edu/Admissions/freshman%20profile.htm
Unless you are in the top 10% of your class, it will be a stretch. Vanderbilt received record applications this year, so look for the acceptance rate to continue dropping.

bump
i want to see more

your ECs are good but my friend last year had a 1440 and a 3.9 and she was rejected from NYU...

getting into those top schools is always such a toss up- I would never count yourself out just because someone with better stats than you got rejected. You never know what they're looking for on any given day...

Yeah, I'm friends with the first of two high school principals that we've had, sort of. He really likes me and can write a rec, perhaps. Don't worry about how there are two.

The award was given to me out of perhaps 500 guys in the class at the time, it is supposed to show that I have some kind of recognizable character above the other students. Well, I was extremely nice to everyone, still am, I'm not sure quite what it means but it certainly means something. Perhaps if I send a copy of the award or the award itself to some of the colleges. Maybe I'll leave it out. Sorry to worry you about that one thing, it just came to my mind.

"getting into those top schools is always such a toss up- I would never count yourself out just because someone with better stats than you got rejected. You never know what they're looking for on any given day..."

And that's exactly why I'm going to go for some of these great schools. My counselor, who seems to have lower expectations for me than I have(though she's a terribly nice lady and we've talked for long periods of time about philosophy and the like, and what to expect out of life), discounted me out of Rice early in the running; this was before my first-semester Junior year grades which were(unfortunately) not all that good.

Thankfully, this semester, I'm... "kicking arse" you could say, and my grades have risen probably about 30-40 percent, I'm really giving it a go. I understand why I couldn't get into Rice, they only take a certain number of people from my school because we are from Texas and they want geographic diversity and etc., however, I'm not going to give up on ANY school I want to get into.

Now, does anyone have SUGGESTIONS for me? I want a good business school with most importantly, a good finance program! OR I want a really solid liberal arts political science education!

Anyone know of the best poly sci schools that I could get into?

Thanks for the help guys!

Suggestions please!?

Hey, also, if I applied early decision to W&L or Vanderbilt, do you think I'd get in to whichever one I applied to?

bump

Come on...

You have a great shot at Tulane and GWU. The others are toss ups.

Yeah, I think the same jw... but I really would like to know how my chances shift if I go ED to Vanderbilt or Washington and Lee!

Can anyone tell me?

.... can anyone give me the answer to the prior question.... please?

obivously your chances will improve...dumb question

No kidding idiot, I'm not looking for your tripe(I've seen you post crap on other threads).

I mean, I want someone to actually rate my chances, not just tell me they will improve. I want to see whether someone with any EXPERIENCE(hear that, wang, meaning NOT you) with colleges would have a good feel for whether or not I'd most likely get in to either of those two(Vandy or W&L) if I went early decision.

what can someone on this board tell you besides anything you already know? Geez..ask your counselor

My counselor barely knows where Washington and Lee is.

There are people ON THIS BOARD with experience with either W&L and/or Vanderbilt, OR schools like W&L or Vanderbilt.

I need to know what my ED chances for getting in are. Better? Of course. But if I go ED anywhere, it's because I would know it'd get me in.
