There are various things that are good about both schools. If at NYU I plan to do Dramatic Writing at Tisch, while at UCSB I will do Literature in the College of Creative Studies. So it's very difficult. NYU is in such a great location, but so is UCSB at a 5 minute walking distance from the beach. What would you do?

I would go to NYU. I love THE city, not much the beach.

I think it would be very hard to turn down NYU over UCSB. But if social life and the college experience is much more important to you, go to UCSB. If your a nerd who barely can talk to anyone or is shy, you might as well go to NYU just to have the better name.

Wouldn't NYU have a better social scene as well. I mean it is New York...

Well, that's arguable.

But its Santa Barbara!!!!! if you live in CA, go to ucsb. if not, go to nyu. that's what i'd do. i have heard that santa barbara's lifestyle is top notch though.

i meant about school's social scene, not city social scene.

It really depends on your style. Both UCSB and NYU are about the same in prestige. NYU socially is much different. I have a lot of expereinces with people that went to school in New York, and the social scene is much more club and bar oriented. UCSB is much more house party oriented. NYU is hectic, UCSB is laid back to the point of inertia. So it really does depend on the person.

The thing with NYU is, there is no central campus. So the social scene is all of Tribeca, Greenwhich, SoHo (Lower Manhattan). UCSB has Isla Vista and bars in Santa Barbara, much more school oriented.

Both are excellent schools. Students at Santa Barbara probably have a more traditional college experience than those at NYU, however.

im a cali native, i love Santa Barbara, but I think you'd get a better education and more experiences at NYU
