NYU Vacations

When and how long are vacations (Thanksgiving, Winter, etc.) at NYU?

This is the academic calendar for the past year: [NYU > University Registrar > Calendars > Official University Calendar](<a href=“Class Registration, Transcripts, Graduation”>Class Registration, Transcripts, Graduation)

Fall semester starts in early Sept and Thanksgiving is a 4 day weekend (Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun) off, although a lot of professors cancel Wednesday classes before Thanksgiving as well.

Winter break starts after your last final - mine was Dec 22nd last year but lots of people finish earlier. Then Winter break is like 4 weeks long. Spring semester starts at the end of January, and we have a Spring break for 1 week in March. Then the semester ends mid-May.

Then there’s Summer Session I and II, and 4 week and 6 week sessions so it varies. Without summer classes, you’re off mid-May - September, so over 3 months!

Thank you much!
Are you still considered a full-time student if you take Summer off?

Yeah, of course most students don’t take summer classes - full time status means you have to take at least 12 credits per semester - or at least this is the rule in CAS.

For the purpose of getting early (cheaper!) airline tickets:

The calendar says Thanksgiving is Wed-SATURDAY. One is expected to be back BEFORE Sunday?

At what point does one receive their “finals” schedule? (I know you HAVE to leave soon after your last final, right?)

Thanks!

1) No, you don’t have to be back before Sunday.

2) You get your Finals Schedule on the first day of the class. Usually. For large classes (huge MAP courses) ALL the finals for that one class are on the same day. Some Professors will state on the syllabus when their final is. No, they never check when your last final is. I’ve left up to a week after my last final and they never say anything.

Missypie…you’re so helpful. THX.

No problem! This is why I’m a Welcome Week leader every year. :-D
