Hey, I know that the two schools are very very different from each other, and it is because of this factor that the decision is that much more difficult. I only have a few more days to decide and send in my deposit to Brandeis or NYU. If you could please help me with that decision by telling me whatever info you know about either school, and the pros and cons, and even asking me what I prefer, I would really appreciate it because I am a long way from making a decision and I have very little time to make it. Thank you so much to anyone who took the time to help.

What are you planning to study?

It mostly depends on which environment you like best, financial needs, and the program you want to study in.

If you are into business and you are going to Stern, choose Stern.

If you are into theatre arts and you are going to Tisch, go to Tisch.

If you want to double major in different areas, go to Brandeis because they do not prevent you from taking a second major in a different college.

If you are studying a major in liberal arts, I recommend choosing Brandeis. I must say I think both are similar for liberal arts but Brandeis tends to have a less restricted program. NYU is more restricted in the sense to prevent students from interally transferring to Stern or Tisch easily from CAS as a tactic. Wikipedia does report that Brandeis focuses on liberal arts so it might be better but that's just my opinion.

Brandeis is ranked #31 while NYU is ranked #34 overall, not for specific colleges.

New York University - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brandeis has a traditional campus life while NYU is a life of a city. Of course, the places around NYU is a bit pricy but if you can afford it then no problem.

You may want to do a bit of research on your own. Visiting would be preferable if you have not yet done so. There are only 10 days left though.

We need more info about what you want to study, what activities you want to participate in and what type of social setting you want in order to best help you.

I made the same decision last year. You can PM if you want.

So i'm not 100% sure yet but probably pre-med and possibly law but thats a whole other story. Socially though, how does the social life at NYU compare to Brandeis? Additionally I always found the idea of moving into an apartment in the city early in college appealing because it could set a foundation for my future. At Brandeis that's not a possibility, however there is a campus unlike NYU, which is a plus for me also.

I suggest that you dorm in your first year in order to meet people. Students are much more comfortable talking to dorm neighbors than classmates in class, especially huge ones. Moving into an apartment is not a good idea if you are going to live alone. Also, you may want to check the expenses of getting an apartment whether it is rent or electricity bills.

I am sure there are apartments around Brandeis. Rental companies often surround colleges with their own small apartment buildings for students who want to live outside of dorms or use it for parties. That is based on what I saw in Cornell University. Can not be too sure on Brandeis.

As for social life, it is a guess. Some students have good experiences and some have bad experiences. Your social life is entirely up to you to control.

i am a transfer applicant from Stony brook to CAS. I say you simply do not want to miss the life of a real college campus. It is so nice and green and i actually feel i am in college. if my parents havent force me to go back home in the city and study in NYC, i wouldnt even consider applying for NYU, which is like back to high school and commuting everyday. still that is up to what you like best.

if you chose nyu, i think the above poster is right especially in the city. most students are likely from the city and already have friends outside of nyu, so they probably have no need to meeting people. dorming is probably one of the few ways to meet people. being in stony, i actually have to force myself to meet people like everyone else there because i have few friends going to stony with me and most remained in the city in CUNYs

Brandeis has a totally different feel than NYU. 98% of first-year students live on campus so we're not a commuter school at all. Even if you live off-campus, it's suburban.

I like Brandeis b/c we are on such a beautiful, safe suburban campus, yet Boston is so accessible.

It's really personal preference though.
