@Nooob
Then its an argument on whether the prestige of Columbia is really that much higher than NYU’s. There needs to be a huge gap between the two in order for what you said about opportunities to be true.

The differences in prestige is not that great, if you are talking Job Opportunities then you should understand that employers care more about experience and performance of an individual rather than his college background.

In other words, if there is a difference in opportunity between NYU and Columbia because of their different levels of prestige, it is superficial and short lasting, since an NYU student already comes from a great college and employers care more about experience and performance than prestige. (The avg starting salary of a Sternie and a Columbia student in Wallstreet are nearly the same btw)

^You hit the nail on the head.

Most people on CC don’t realize that it’s your personality/work/leadership experience that gets you a job, not your college background – do employers care, let alone know what the USNWR rankings, acceptance rates, SAT mid-ranges are??? Most likely not.

College background might, in some cases, help land an interview, but if you go into the interview under the impression that you’re a shoo-in because you went to Columbia not NYU, it wouldn’t be surprising to see you lose out. I don’t believe that NYU students are at any inherent disadvantage to Columbia students in terms of employment opportunities.
