NYU vs. Emory

I have to decide by Monday and I am very indecisive person!
A few facts: I LOVE NYC, but I sat in on a cognitive neuroscience class at NYU and I was pretty disappointed, I knew most of what they were teaching already from my AP Psyc class. Unfortunately I will not get to sit in on a class at Emory because it is to close to their exams. Also my father works for Emory so I have tuition paid for there. And after my scholarship NYU would cost about 20k for me overall. So it is more expensive. I want to study some sort of Biology, my main interests right now are neuroscience or maybe genetics. But I am fascinated by the human brain. I hope to be a researcher when I am older so I will want to research as an undergrad if possible. I don't really like Atlanta very much, especially in comparison to NYC. I have wanted to live in NYC for as long as I can remember but I do not want to sacrifice my education and research, I could always live there later (even though I really want to now!). I'm not really into greek life so I worry about not fitting in at Emory. Also my favorite hobby is acting in films so NYC would be great for pursuing that in my spare time.

So my questions are:
1) What is student life like at both schools (mainly Emory because even if I don't fit in a NYU I have a whole city of people right outside my door to find friends in)?
2) Which school has stronger programs for neuroscience/genetic/molecular bio and better research opportunities for undergrads?
3) Which school will have a more rigorous program? I really want to be challenged with the difficulty, but I do no want to be bogged down by a bunch of silly busy work like I'm in high school.
4) Are the differences enough to justify spending more money to go to NYU?

Thanks so much for helping me figure out what it is I want!

I believe NYU is very strong in both neuroscience and genetics.

You sat in on a Cognitive Neuroscience class (as in the actual class “Cognitive Neuroscience” taught by the Psych department) and already knew most of the material? I know for a fact my Psych 101 and my Cognitive Neuroscience were VERY different courses – only very basic material overlapped.

(1) I had to face the same choice between NYU and Emory (as well as a number of other schools) and chose NYU because I prefer to the atmosphere at NYU – there’s no frat scene; no dorm parties, etc. It lets you party when you want off-campus, and let’s you study in your room without any loud parties

(2) Emory provides better research opportunities to undergrads, but I believe NYU’s program is, overall, stronger.

(3) More rigorous? Not sure. NYU doesn’t assign ‘busy work’ – very few colleges really do.

(4) Depends on what you want and what you deem as appropriate.

Maybe it just so happened that the class I saw was the one class that almost all of the material overlapped. Thank you for your input! I really love the atmosphere at NYU too.

“my father works for Emory so I have tuition paid for there”

So the better school is free tuition? Yeah makes sense go to NYU. smh. GO TO EMORY!

I would choose Emory over NYU without question, and with your free tuition there this is a no-brainer…

Can either of yall who said Emory tell me some things about Emory student life?
