nyu vs emory

i am debating between Emory and NYU (econ major)

if i go to NYU, i will try to get into Stern (currently CAS econ)
but i heard that internal transfer is very hard though not impossible

Goizueta is not better than Stern but i heard it will be easy to get into

Also, i see emory is ranked #20 and NYU #37 (usnews)
someone told me to go to emory if not in Stern.. do you guys agree?

but it is also true that emory lacks name recognition

can anybody make some suggestions for me?
thanks in advance

iunno..when someone says emory I think about the Law School or maybe medical...

emory b-school is not as respected as Stern but is good too (top15 i think)
somebody told me that Goizueta is much better than CAS Econ
and that quite makes sense
unless i get into stern,,,

well i'm debating between UCLA and NYU, which is sort of a similar situation

yeh
its time to make up our minds tho...
may 1 is approaching fast!

If you go to NYU, don't count on a Stern transfer unless you do really well, like a 3.9 or 4.0, freshman year. But Stern is better than Emory for econ academically, has more prestige, and the NYC location is unbeatable for internships.

It sort of depends what you are looking for. Emory is a great school, but it's very preppy, Southern, and academically focused. On the other hand, NYU is somewhat preppy as well but has an extremely diverse class; great academics and great hands-on experience.

Personally, I would choose NYU because Emory seems very stifling.

GOOD LUCK!

stern vs. emory? i don't think theres even a question about that. cas econ isn't great, but you can transfer if you take most of the classes required for stern your first year and do really well to transfer in. internal transfer is a lot harder but one of my friends did it. and what do you want to do with your econ major... go into ibanking? then hands down, nyu over emory anyday. not saying this from a bias pt of view bc i go to stern but yes, amazing professors and intern wise.. theres no where else thats better. good luck on your decision.

i would say nyu and emory are on the same par
however, i think it is true that transferring to other school within NYU is pretty hard(at least thats what i hear)
also, emory does has a high name value, it is world-widely known, i guess, cuz all my international friends know about emory and think is great.
On the one hand, being in NYC and Stern(if you can make it however) will give you a lot, in terms of social life and academics also.
think carefully about financial issue and how hard you are willing to work on your first and/or second year to be able to transfer..
However, CAS econ VS Goizueta.. i'd choose Goizueta.. considering how only a few ppl actually make Stern..
sorry, i wasn't really helpful, anyway goodluck with your decision!

Is CAS econ really that bad?

etnad, is internal transfer from Steinhardt to CAS hard to do as well?

At the end of the day, NYU is a gamble and Emory is a safe bet. Stern is clearly better than a BBA at Emory. However, if he can't get into Stern, it's misleading to tell him that CAS Econ is on par with an Emory degree in Econ or a BBA @ Goizueta.
