NYU vs Fordham

I was recently accepted to Fordham and I am applying to NYU as well. If I get into NYU I am not sure which I would choose. I understand they are very different schools. But all I want is to go to school in the city.

I just don't know. Any input as to which one you prefer?

what’s your major?

well, let’s talk about some of the differences…

Fordham: 2 campuses; a smaller one in Lincoln Center (great location) and one in the Bronx (the Rose Hill campus) which is absolutely beautiful. Fordham offers more of a traditional college experience, their campus is one of the nicest I’ve visited, the classes are smaller than NYU’s, it’s more close-knit, they care more about sports. It’s also a Jesuit university, and everyone is required to take theology classes. I think their liberal arts core also has more requirements than NYU’s MAP.

NYU in contrast is larger, downtown, less traditional. There’s no sports culture, classes on average are larger, it’s less close-knit, no campus so everything is more spread out and dorms are further away from classes. It does have more majors than Fordham and offers a great breadth of courses (simply because it’s a larger university), and I think it’s more diverse.

I chose NYU over Fordham because NYU has a Neuroscience major (biggest reason) , I preferred the Village to the Bronx, and NYU is larger, more diverse, and secular. I know some people who chose Fordham over NYU and they seem to love it as well. It totally depends on whether you want a more traditional or independent experience. I also got sort of a “white-catholic-preppy” vibe from Fordham which reminded me of my HS whereas NYU gave off more of a quirky vibe.
