I've narrowed my college choice down between NYU and Northeastern's schools of journalism (undergraduate). Now, I'm choosing between the two.

At Northeastern, I was accepted into the Honors Program, and at NYU, I was accepted as a Presidential Scholar at the College of Arts and Science.

Yes, NYU is ranked much higher, but it's more expensive -

I got a $16,000/year scholarship to Northeastern
and a $10,000/year scholarship to NYU (which has about $6,000/year more expensive tuition)

So, overall, it'd be about an extra $48,000 for the entire undergraduate study to go to NYU over Northeastern. My parents are willing to cover the cost of Northeastern, meaning I would have to take out loans from NYU to cover that extra $48,000. Is it worth it?

I'm drawn to Northeastern's co-op program - it seems to be really helpful for the students to get a taste of professional life, build a resume, and eventually get set up with a full-time job after graduation. Is the significance of the co-op program exaggerated at all? Also, as a member of the honors program, I'd be given a spot in the new honors residence hall, which features suite housing. (And I like the feel of the campus there more than at NYU).

I don't have long to make a decision! Please help!!!

I don't think so. It's your undergrad, so it's what you put into it whether it's Harvard or Penn State, a degree is a degree. If one is cheaper, but equal, what's the difference? I'm partial to Boston.

A couple of comments. Go to the NEU board and read the posts about the honors program. It has some nice perks. I have a son at NEU, and I plus other parents and students have outlined the honors program in lots of posts.
Be aware that the honors dorm for freshman is great but if they have more students than spaces in that dorm, you are not guaranteed that dorm, particularly if you haven't paid your deposit yet. Also the following year as a sophomore you are at the bottom of the housing heap.
If you plan to work right out of undergrad, the NEU coop program should help you with job placement. But with the coops it is a 5 year program and during coops you have to cover room and board.
That said, my son and most of the honors freshmen I have been hearing about really like NEU.

Yeah I already submitted my housing deposit and got guaranteed a spot. (I applied early action). But this was before I found out I would be a presidential scholar at NYU, and that made me rethink things. Visiting NYU was great, too - the journalistic opportunities there seem vast and I wouldn't want to miss out on them.

Journalism doesn't pay that well, so I would go with Northeastern. I have a very close relative who was a J major there in the seventies and did the coop. Yes, it helped. But it didn't help right away. He was job-hunting in Boston for two years, but then it did help him to land a true small-city reporter job in another state. It helps, but you still have to play your cards right, lobby for jobs, keep in touch with each coop place and try to cultivate a real job offer. You have to be a little political about it. Many coop jobs, journalism and other, require you to have a car. If you were not planning to have one, that will cut into your profits a lot. And of course, room and board do, too. Dressing professionally does, too, but definitely do that, do not skimp. You may go out of state and have to set up an efficiency apartment or something like that.
