My top choice is NYU, but, NYU Poly sent me a free application and my parents want me to apply. Does applying to NYU Poly affect my chances of getting into NYU??

Did you apply to NYU yet? NYU poly is pretty much NYU very soon and will be filed under NYUs application for poly. If you use the NYU application, you can get a decision from both schools from what i heard and this is the last year they will allow that.

Note that PINYU has a rather different selection of majors than NYU proper (which is in the process of merging in PINYU).

NYU and NYU-Poly are very different caliber schools. Poly is easier to get - given that you are strong in your sceinces. I believe they have an acceptance rate around 67%. NYU has an acceptance rate around 30%, and has been dropping yearly. This year there were about 48k applicants, but the class size has, for the most part, remained the same.

If you know what you want to major in, the decision becomes very easy. If you are dead set on game design, digital media design, computer science and engineering (computer) - then Poly is the way to go.

Anything else? NYU.

Depending on your scores, NYU could be a target/reach, and if so, Poly would be more of a safety school.
