I’m having a lot of trouble picking between the two. I really like the idea of being in Los Angeles, while I’ve never actually been to New York. I also like how small it is, while NYU is huge. The prestige of NYU is giving some pressure in me thinking of going there. I know NYU could be a great experience, but it could also be a challenging one. Can anyone else give some insight on which school to pick?
Have you visited each school? These two environments are about as different as two colleges can be. The Oxy campus is very pretty and very small (and very hilly!) It is not really in Los Angeles; it is in a suburb. NYU is in the heart of Greenwich Village/Washington Square, Manhattan. This is a very big lifestyle difference.
How much does each cost if you don’t subtract loans ? Are they both affordable without your parents taking on loans ? What Would you be studying ?
As was mentioned before, they’re completely different schools. I initially wanted to go to a small LAC and looked at Oxy, but I ended up transferring to NYU from a different LAC.
For me at least, being at NYU felt far less like being in school. It was more just like living in the city and having classes sometimes. Some of this is due to the location, the size, and also the fact that I wasn’t a freshman on my own for the first time.
Also, I transferred mainly because I wanted to do film and NYU has one of the better programs for that, but as far as academic classes, I felt that my LAC offered far better and more challenging classes.
