NYU VS state univ. (NY)

I got 30k from NYU. Still owing 30k more.

I only need to pay 2k for SUNY Geneseo, and 4k for SUNY Binghamton.

In terms of education for psychology, I hear that the 3 schools are good. I hear that when I apply for medical school (im shooting for psychiatry), "studied at NYU" would look better though.

So go to NYU which I feel would be the most enjoyable and good for graduate school but pay more?
Or go to one of the state SUNYs for very cheap? I hear many things about the unenjoyable environment of the SUNYs though.

I want to go to NYU, and im applying for scholarships and etc. But I need to pick a college in 2 weeks. I dont think Ill find out the scholarship results until after that.

This is when "i shoulda studied more" really kicks you in the ass :(

Med school admission is more about your overall GPA, your GPA in the pre-med courses, and your MCAT score, than it is about the name on your college diploma. NYU is not going to get you into any med school that you can’t get into from SUNY Geneseo or SUNY Binghamton. Unless your family has a boatload of money saved to pay for your education, it is silly to pay an additional 120k+ for four years at NYU. Save that money (if your parents do have it) or debt (if you don’t have it) for med school.

absolutely agree with @happymomof1

Take the money you would have spent for NYU and use it towards summer programs or med school. There is no need or reason to spend money on NYU when you have 2 great options (Geneseo and Binghamton).

I am not familiar with Binghamton (aside from knowing its strength academically), but Geneseo has great academics, and all the feel of a small liberal arts college. You can’t go wrong with either SUNY.
