Anyone know which is better?

If it helps, I'm planning on attending a grad school for a Medical Physics masters/PhD (Stony Brook has an accredited Med physics program).

Go to Stony. It’s easier to get higher GPA there and also cheaper. Go to a prestigious grad school.

Oh, and for background info, I’m a transfer. I’ve spent 2 years at Clarkson University. I was accepted into NYU over the summer, but decided not to go because of the loans I would have to take out.

I’m just wondering if SBU’s physics program is better than NYU’s. I’ve heard it’s better, but which gives me a better shot into getting into grad school?

Stony Brook is one of the most underrated schools in the country and has a hell of a group of physical and bio/medical departments. Stony brook has multiple nobel winners as well as fields medal winners.

NYU is horrifically overpriced and is well known for bogging their grads down in tons of debt (although I don’t know what avg amt SB students leave with).

I only got 5k in scholarship from NYU…if I chose to be there, I’d be in 75k in debt (I’m in 15k right now).

Even if SBU gives me nothing (assuming I get the same amount of Federal Aid), the max debt I’ll be in when I graduate is like…25k…

I don’t even know why you are posting then. Graduate with manageable debt or with 30+ years of debt? This should be an easy call.

Well, I was just wondering which program was better.

Anyone else wanna shed some light?

I’m looking for the school that gives me the best opportunity to get a job after/get into the best grad school.

The question is a little hard to tell, because SB does not appear to have publicly visible career survey information (specific to its graduates and majors, as opposed to general surveys), though NYU does.

Still, a lot of extra debt cannot be a good thing.
